Story of my life, one of my co-workers almost got me killed about a year and a half ago, since then I have a new life policy, I don't work with retards aka people I can't trust in an emergancy.

He was an alright guy, average intellegence, but froze when shit hit the fan.

Seen a lot of that working C2 (Command and Control) ... some people don't have the capacity to work in a multi-tasking / simultaneous input environment ... especially in a crisis (shit hitting the fan). Doesn't make them bad people ... takes all kinds to make a world, eh? :D

Exactly, and I don't hold him at fault for it. Simple life truth, MOST people will freeze in an emergancy, some wont. But in my work environment I deal with high pressures and high temperatures and on rare occasions people get seriously hurt.. so knowing I can count on the guy next to me is important.

Been there and done that ... 'bout a year ago I actually walked off an acft we were loading and got in the truck with the Duty Officer (Operations Boss) ... told him I wouldn't work with the guy crew chiefing (lead) ... because he was gonna hurt somebody eventually. .... hmmmm that guy got moved to a less critical section in the squadron shortly after that.;)

Background to that story: I've known the DO for years (we worked active duty military together).

Hmmmm..... Time to start a TW flash mob?? :D
Sometimes thats what it takes, I've had to do it a couple of times over a few years, but recognizing the hazzards have actually paid off for me in fast forwarding my career.

TW Flash Mob....I like the way you think kid!

The good bosses will recognize it and promote you because of it ... in a politically correct environment it can bite you in the @ss ... hopefully you recognize those bosses early enough to guard your words around them. That kind of boss is really really really dangerous in an industrial/hazardous environment.

Here's an old fav story of mine ... I'll try to condense it as much as possible: Had a visiting Chief Master Sergeant (E-9 -- top enlisted rank) visiting my squadron at RAF Mildenhall in the UK. I was E-6 at the time. At Ops Brief that morning I briefed the Colonel about a situation where one of the aircrews was in error and how I was going to correct them ... he basically told me to handle it and let him know if he needed to get involved.

After Ops Brief the Chief pulls me aside and proceeds to chew me out saying he'd never seen a Technical Sergeant speak to a full bird Colonel that way ...

Later that afternoon I had to go see the Colonel about something, it was just me and him in his office ... it'd been bothering me all day (what the Chief told me) ... so I asked him if I was out of line at Ops Brief that morning ... I'll never forget what he told me .... "Rob, I've got enough people blowing smoke up my ass around here, if you start I'll fire your ass and find somebody else to do your job!" Col. Chuck Royce -- he was a helluva good boss and true leader.

Sounds like stone cold inspiration to me hahaha

Pretty much how I got my mini promotion, basically my boss is the one truely in charge of this team of 5 people I have underneath me, but he pulled me aside one day a few months ago and asked if I wanted some responsibility. Basically he said, "I don't have the time to do anything besides sign their paychecks".

So I've been directing them, planning their jobs, ordering their suplies and the whole 9 yards. Looks really good for me though, got kudo's from out district manager, a guy 4 levels above me.

That's really cool ... and something to be proud of ... especially at 24 yrs old. Kudos from a district manager is always (in my experience) a sign of good things to come in your future.
