I'm still under warranty so I'm letting the dealership take care of it. The guy I spoke with said it takes less than an hour, but then again these guys do this all the time. I haven't looked into it but it should be a fairly easy change out. I've seen a couple of threads on here that go over step by step how to R/R the motor and/or fan.

Took me a while to find this thread as I don't consider "ticking/clicking" to be synonymous with "squeaking/chirping" (oh, and it's squeak, not squeek), but whatever, I read all 38 pages.

My clicking/ticking started a couple months ago, at first it was only when I was in motion, but eventually I noticed it when the truck was sitting still. It finally got to the drives-me-crazy point. I figured there was a piece of flotsam in the fan-blades. I know I found enough seeds, twigs and leaf parts in the cabin air filter, I wouldn't be surprised to find one or more made it through the filter.

Thanks to those who posted the TSB 0162-11. I'll make sure I take a copy in when I hit the dealership service department.

Anyone notice that the chirping really quiets down or stops when you apply the break? I noticed it a few weeks ago. Though it was a fluke but every time i tapped the breaks the chirping noise almost went away. It does start back up when you come to a complete stop and keep the breaks pressed. Anyone else?

It probably relates to engine vibrations. Same as your mirrors vibrate more or less depending on how you're using the gas and/or the brake pedals. Way more noticeable if you've ever ridden a motorcycle, but similar in a car as well.

just my 2 cents, I have tried all the suggested remedies. Balancing worked for a few mins, oiling worked for a day, but the squeak kept coming back.....until I took it all apart, filed down the ridge on the brushes and greased but bushing with lithium.....now its silent and has been for a while

Mine got worse breaking, idleling and turning to the left.

Will see how long this one last, the old one was 6 months old, I had 3 different part number installed, I hope this is it.

FYI, I called Heninger Toyota in Calgary yesterday to discuss my circumstance.

I had the original blower motor on my 09 DCLB TRD Sport replaced under warranty April 30th, 2011 when I had 58k km on the truck. Part # 87103-04042.

Since then, the ticking returned with a vengeance! It seems to be worse when it is cold out, and this week is averaging -30C.

Here's the problem, I have since put another 12k km on the truck and I have fallen out of warranty. I didn't want to spend a penny on this, and I reminded the advisor the part was less than a year old.

What did they say? "No problem, bring it on in! We can fit you in this evening at 4ish"

Awesome! I now have part #87103-04043, didn't pay a cent and I'm click free once again.

I have repeatedly been impressed and wholly satisfied when dealing with Heninger Toyota. Great people!

Got mine done last week. I've had a Tacoma since '05, and that tick has been a pain in my ass. Driving home, it was like a whole new truck!

I removed mine today (30 sec job) and loosed the two screws on the motor itself a little bit. Noise is gone... we'll see if it lasts.

Took mine to Toyota today, wasn't chirping bad enough to annoy me too bad, but they put the new part in. So hopefully I am good to go there.

Got an oil change coming next week and will bring up the blower motor noise.. On my previous tacoma they told it was leaves that were making the noise... I hate how they try and FUCK you out fixing something that is their responsibility...

3" lift. $10K in TRD options. Richie's semi-hidden bumper, and soon his Elka suspension
For those getting it replaced under warranty, ask for this part #:

    87103 - 04043

I've had mine replaced with the same one 3 times and chirp came back within a month.

Gave the dealer the new PN to put in under warranty - this should clear it up. Another member of the SONTT club in Ontario had it done over 2 months ago and still quiet.
