simple the guy that clipped him in the winter classic would've thought twice before taking him out like that. I've played the game year round from six until i was 21 so i have an understanding of what drives some impulse decisions in weird situations like that one. In my opinion, if crosby wasn't such a douche hiding behind scum like cooke he wouldnt have been hit like that.

btw im rooting for crosby's return. hes a great player and a great player to hate as a rangers fan. i watched his return game and was happy for him when he scored his first goal back.

 

While I appreciate your point of view. I disagree that that Steckel thought twice about his contact with Crosby. I do not see that Steckel made contact to Crosby with any real intent at all. He was moving up ice with the play, that was his intent. Crosby was circling while following the play with his eyes. Crosbys mistake was not seeing Steckel, he was too busy looking at the play

I believe Cherry's comment about Steckel's shoulder pads is relevant. They should ban hard plastic shoulder and elbow pads and enforce the use of soft materials. The plastic is like weaponry. Strangely ,this is not discussed enough in the concussion-debate

true, in the 90s i had those louisville shoulder pads with the white plastic and pivot in the middle chest area. those things were lethal

With regards to the Steckel hit, it looks like Crosby turned into him, and Steckel even looks like he's trying to avoid him a bit. Did his shoulder hit his head? Yes Did he mean to do it? Probaly not. New pads should be discussed as a solution.

Anyone know if the Euro leagues with bigger rinks have the same problem with concussions we do here?

 

Bigger rinks or not, European hockey as a whole isn't nearly as violent as North American
