Just found this post from you. I am in the Troy area, going for my 5th year at RPI now. But anyways I'm sure you've probably seen my Tacoma around. Barcelona Red 2nd gen DCSB. I've gone out looking for trails but would prefer not to get stuck on my own. Lemme know when you go out again.

    Lots.
Saw a black 2nd gen with tinted tails, dual exhaust, bull bar with lights today traveling north on the Jersey turnpike (they had NY plates, which is why I'm posting here).

We cruised for awhile and I'm sorry for blowing past you at one point. I had to get to Groton, CT by 5 for a physical.

oooo last year at RPI here too. Got a red SR5 1st gen. I'll let you know. I love to do projects too. Should have a lot of time next semester. Done all my hard eng. classes.
I usually bring a friend in a jeep wrangler wheeling. We've got tow ropes, snatch straps, shackles. & usually pack lunch. Only been three times since august. Haven't got stuck yet - knock on wood. I've seen a few guys wheel around the area. Most have old beater Jeep Cherokees. I'm not into hardcore rock crawling anymore after I saw a Jeep break a dana 40 on a fire access route out past route2. We were wheeling in the area and it went from category 3-ish to 5 real quick. Can't believe I made it 1-2miles in with a stock tacoma. Anyways don't feel like breaking anything I can't afford lol. Having said that, the tacoma is definitely a tough truck.

I just checked out bear swamp the other week. From what I could tell it's nothing more than an access road that makes a loop though a protective nature area for hunters and hikers. There are a bunch of little hunting camps on the road and my ford focus could have handled it no problems.

Doesn't appear to be any offshoots to offroading trails. Some old logging trails are there but they're blocked off by huge boulders. As with anything concerning offroading in NY it appears they don't want it being done there.

For the record I only spent about an hour or two there. It was a spur of the moment trip, so there could be other trails down there that I'm unaware of but I doubt it's anything challenging or technical.
