    oh hell yes :)

i also built my kits from scratch from some expensive companies. everything is either oakley, tad gear, maxpedition, and this was for 3 bags one for camping and 2 bob's everything purchased for those has been completely forgotten about meaning i don't go digging into them for stuff.

i posted up the contents of my sitka sling on the first couple of pages the other bob is put together the same way. this was my first attempt at being proactive and setting up a quality kit.

i know i could have saved a lot of money but, idk these things are there i case the shit really does hit the fan for what ever reason and i didn't want any problems with my gear.

keeping in mind this was for everything. multiple expensive folders and fixed blades there was a lot of stuff i didn't have so i needed to take stock and see what i thought was important.

i think i covered a lot of bases but, i think they still need work lol. any suggestions from the sere trained guy would be awesome that kind of training is the real deal man so if you have input i'm all ears.

See, i don't know anything about weapons. i was trained in building shelters and pretty much hiding in the woods. We also covered how to keep your mouth shut in case we were ever captured.

i keep rope, a tarp, 550 chord, a couple of knives and lights in my truck and i could live comfortably for days. lol

Edit: also keep a water bottle and should get MREs.

I'll be out in the woods surviving with this guy. You guys can battle it out somewhere else with weapons and shit. For me, weapons have nothing to do with surviving.

I have some additional things like a flashlight, fire starting tool, light extra clothing, poncho, compass, and a few Cliff bars. Oh, a couple'a Hustler mags - forgot about the Hustler mags.

When (and if it ever does) the SHTF and you're out in the woods trying to prep an animal that you caught, imagine some desperate starving sap with a gun (hunger in extreme conditions=not very rational thinking, only get food how ever you can!) comes upon you, threatening you, for your catch! or even 2 or 3 guys try to take your food or what gear you might have, then you'll be wishing for a gun! :p

well i don't live in a secluded area i live right outside of philly so the thought of my glock 30 makes me feel better in a bad situation.

my wife also has here g19. i never thought to myself that i would be battling anyone lol its more so people don't take what i have for the kind of security they provide they are light weight.

these bags and my truck was built with getting away from an urban setting as safely as possible while protecting myself and my wife. i don't consider them survival tools but they are part of my bag as is 200 rounds of .45 and 500 of the 9mm both hornandy critical defense.

just an added measure one hurricane and people seem to get raped  well that shit ain't going down with this guy lol

^ this or even worse thats why i made room for a couple pieces of battle tupperware nothing else :)

the navy guy can teach us all a thing or two though. i have been hooked on dual survival for awhile now and if you can get past cody and the bare foot comments its a good show with some decent info.

lol that old hippie say's knowledge is powerful and light weight. and you can always learn something new. lol we should pick this guys brain about different situations or techniques to help you stay alive i'm down for learning from a real life bad ass like that.

correct me if i'm wrong but, sere training is navy seal capture and evade type shit right? that stuff is freaking intense man!

well I finished my 5th crossfit class last night and I really enjoy it. Its a lot more fun to me than just hanging out in the gym lifting weights and watching meat heads walk around drinking protein shakes

What if I have to hoof it somewhere with my bag? I want to be in shape and I think crossfit goes hand in hand with "be prepared for anything".

    I also picked up a 4.5 x 14 x 40 nikon scope my one of my AR's last night :D

for my goal of getting away from civilization and into as remote an area as i can having protection built into my bags was a must for me.

a glock 19 and 500 rounds of good ammo can save your ass multiple times if you look at it that way. like i have my knife on me in the woods at all times. i'm also going to have a bamf gun i know how to effectively shoot so i can protect my family. it may never be used in that capacity.

but, if it is needed i would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it...

Been off work for awhile but thought I'd chime in some. See some great ideas here. Definately get a 1/50k map (MGRS Military Grid Reference System) with a protractor and good compass. Learn how to use it. Know your GM angle, what that means and how to go from magnetic to grid and vice versa. Your map should be of your main area and surrounding areas. Know how to give a 10 digit grid location without using a GPS. Get your maps laminated and put in some dry erase fine markers. When things do go bad, the people that will come save you or that you want to meet with will understand 10 digit grids more than anything else.

Stay in shape. All that gear is useless if you can't carry it and you become useless if you just wander aimlessly in the woods because you don't know how to use a map.

Honestly as I've said before I'll just make it home. Wife and kids keep me from doing what I was trained to do. I may be good to go...I know my family could not last. Why reinvent the wheel...you already have a premade shelter, close to running water and food supplies. Build up your own home (see my previous threads) and make that your safest place. Then with your own reloading benches and enough reloading supplies, you never have to worry about anyone taking your home by force.

The family that shoots together has intersecting fields of fire.

    Keep it up.

Guns are pretty high on my list. Whatever the scenario, people will get desperate in less then a month. Look at Katrina. My plan includes my issued .40 beretta px4 storm (as an anchor for maritime ops), my glock 23 (6 mags ready to go at all times), about 600 rounds of federal HST, S&W 1911PD .45 (only about 100 rounds of good ammo). I don't keep much for the 1911 because I am not effective with it after training so much on the beretta and glock. I just keep it to have .45 covered if I was to come across some ammo. Long guns inclde mossberg maverick 88 12ga 18" pistol grip for security work and a 26" field barrel, mossberg M590A1 12ga with ghost rings for the heavy lifting, about 150 federal slugs and 150 federal 00buckshot, 100 #8 shot, bushmaster AR15 with insight M6X, Knight's Armament RAS, 7 30 rd GI mags and 10 30 rd Pmags all with 55 grain M855, total about 700 rounds. Also have an assault rig loaded with 12 mags for the AR and 6 for the glock, 550 cord, multi tool, flash light and fixed blade knife. Man it's heavy though. Also have a synthetic winchester model 70 in 30-06 with a millet TRS-1 4-12x50mm. About 150 rounds stored for that. Love that scope by the way. Just got the girlfriend a kel-tec PF9, so the 9mm side is covered, and I'll be getting a Savage MVXP .22LR bolt action rifle shortly. Also have a compound bow for sustainable hunting purposes. Unfortunately all this stuff takes up a lot of room in my truck, so the glock, 22 rifle, M590A1and bow would take priority. My dad taught me to avoid novel guns and calibers. Every wal mart in the country has 22, 223, 9, 40, 45, 12 ga, and 30-06. Guns in calibers like 17HMR, 357 Sig, 10mm, 5.7 Sig, 6.5 rem, .338, 500 S&W or 50BMG you would never see ammo for again.

Right now, my bug out box is just one big rubbermaid box. I plan to shelter in place for 2-4 weeks and let everyone else clog the roads and make themselves easy targets. I have a stream near my house and a birdfeeder which keeps the squirrels nice and fat. I have limited food, a few big packs of ramen noodles, spam, sardines, slim jims, canned fruit and vegetables, etc, a ton of bottled water though, and purification tablets and a katadyn 3 stage filtration system. I also keep several large bags of dogfood (for the dog), but it is also a short term solution for human consumption. I did some research and found that we can't effectively digest the "crude" fats and proteins in dog food, so I guess it's really only carbs for us. After my bug in period, I will be heading to the mountains of western Maryland in the area of the Potomac. Lots of natural resources, and the interstate is close (which could be two fold), but there are some great places to overlook 68 and see anything coming from the east about 10 miles away.

haha this freaking awesome excellent post man.

what books and tools would i need to learn maps the way you had suggested?
that is an excellent idea btw. the people who are going to be rescuing you will understand this better than any other kind of directions.

i'm all over this when get your recommendations on tools and literature.

All this talk of guns makes me sad that I live in Canadia :(

There's no provisions for any CCW permits in Canada "just in case". Basically to be able to apply for a CCW permit here, you have to prove that you have an actual NEED to carry. Mostly limited to people working in remote locations where wildlife is a real threat, armoured car security, and such. Not the general public unfortunately.

*Here's hoping that the Firearms Act is revised! And soon!*
