Morrell Hunters?

anyone else looking forward to doing some shroomin' this spring? i didn't do very well last year, only finding a few dozen, but have great hopes for this season.


How do you prepair your Morrells?

 

How do you know which are poisonous or not?

 

just something i grew up doing. morrells are quite distinctive, though they can differ in looks.

 

Hope to do some this spring on the new property I leased, BUT I can't see them worth a crap. Now my wife can spot them far off, good exercise and scouting even if you find just a few.......

we were just driving through the woods and saw them.

 

Oh yea i plan to hit my " secret spots" here in a couple of weeks. Last year we had an awesome season in TN. Between myself and a buddy of mine we found about 4 dz from a 1 acre spot. Some of them were about 8" tall but most of them were only about 3-4". Some damn good eating once you stuff them pepper jack cheese and deep fry them.

 

This makes me miss my grandpa..........as a kid I'd go with him and dad and find tons of shrooms on grandpas farm....we'd take them back to grandmaw and she would fry them and put them on the table with her homemade sweet ketchup.............best grub I ever ate!!!..............my aunt now has the family recipe for ketchup and I still keep it around. But I sure miss those days.

I still like to find them while turkey hunting..............yummy!!!

 

I roll them in egg and then cracker crumbs, pan fry in butter until slightly crisp on the outside.

Slap em on a plate next to a nice Rib Eye steak and mmm mmmmmmmm

 

We call them Molly Moochers here....Anybody ever heard of them called that???

Damn good eatin too...roll them in egg and roll in flour and pan fry just like the post above but I use flour...

 

Where are they found, and under what conditions ?

LOL nothing else is needed to be said after that....

 

I get my hunted morrels off a picker on ebay.

Cheaper than the stores. I also get my truffles from teh same guy, fresh.
