How do you remove the "Tacoma" & Toyota logo?

I want to paint every face plate or lettering on my truck from chrome to black, how do I get them off? Do i just pop them off? Or what? I probably sound like an idiot but ohwell.


Also, does anyone know where I may be able to find another Toyota logo for my front grille that isn't so...plain? Sort of like the Devil Logo, or any other kind.

 

The Search Function is your friend.

I used the fishing line technique. Warm up the emblem with a hair drier, pull a fishing line through the glue between the paint and emblem. Then clean off the excess glue with a paint safe adhesive remover. Its a good idea to wax over the area where the adhesive remover touched.

 

All the badges on the sides and rear can be removed with fishing line. I used like 30# test and it worked well. Just wrap it around your hands and then slide it between the truck and the badge and make a sawing motion while pulling it from one side to the other. Might want to wear gloves though. Then you can roll whatever is left of the tape off the truck. If Theres a residue use some goo gone or other adhesive remover. Then remove the tape from the badges, paint em, apply new tape, and stick em back on. You might want to mark the location of the badges before removal though. Make a tight box outline around them with masking tape or something similar if you plan on putting them back on in the same place. Front emblem is held on by three or four tabs. Press in on them from behind the grille and it comes right out.

As for the different emblem search for devil horns or metalmiller can probably make you something.

3M double sided tape. Your autoparts store should have some that are spcificaly for automotive use, i.e. outdoor use. You will have to cut narrow strips or stick it to the back of the emblem and cut it out with an exacto knife.

 

If you don't have any fishing line you can also use dental floss.

WD-40, Goo-Gone, "3-in-One oil," rubbing alcohol are all good for removing any adhesive residue.

Guess I'm the only one that did not use fish line. I just used an industrial heat gun and pry'd up on one corner with my finger and peeled them off. Rubbed off the remaining tape with my fingers and then used adhesive remover.

 

I used 3M emblem adhesive when I reapplied my emblems. The stuff worked really well for me.

I say leave them on and use plasti-dip. Just tape off a small area around each emblem and paint away, then peel the overspray off and done.

I went to the hardware store and got a plastic putty knife. Takes those things right off without screwing around with fishing line.

 

I think the idea behind the fishing line is that it is basically impossible to damage the paint that way. Versus a plastic putty knife that could slip. I have no doubts that it would work, just a touch more risky.

If you do it in the summer you can skip the hair dryer. I just did mine last weekend and it was 90 degrees & humid as hell in NJ.
