Coilovers an absolute must?

I have it down to the OME and the Toytec suspension offerings. With either one I will replace the UCA.
I will also be getting new rear springs. I will not be racing my truck but it will be offroaded on weekends. Some mild some moderate.
What are new coilovers going to do for me that a regular shock will not?
The basic difference between my two options has come down to the coilovers

You kind of swapped what you were asking, you start asking about the coilover then switch to asking about the shock. An aftermarket coil will be taller and usually stiffer than the stock coil so you'll get lift and more stability (plus greater resistance to bottoming out on bigger hits). Aftermarket shocks are valved to dampen the taller and stiffer coils. Your stock shocks will not last long with a stronger coil.

A sealed coilover unit seems pricier than just a new shock and spring. OME comes with new shocks and spring choices. The toytec comes with true coilovers(adjustable)
Is it just the adjustablity factor that you get with a product from toytec, icon, or king and such?

Toytec is an eibach spring and 5100 shock, I wouldn't call it a true coilover like icon, fox etc. Yes it has an adjustable collar and are great for light to moderate trails so depends on your use! I'll still end up going to a higher quality coilover due to my style of wheeling, might as well have the best bang for your buck. The extra down travel, better compression/rebound and re-buildable/re-valvable does make it worth it in my opinion. I do really like my toytecs but feel the higher end coilovers are tuned much better for off road.

 

One is assembled and comes with the top. The other only has a coil and strut; you have to reuse your top. You also will need a spring compresor.

 

^^^ Good point, if you were looking at the assembled one that's adjustable at $800 or whatever def get some ICONS non-resi. The assembled non-adjustable one for $600 is a more cost effective way to go. AAL, rear shocks and UCA and your set for just over 1k!
