So I just checked out Gunbroker.com for the first time. I followed an auction of a S&W .357 with no reserve and a Buy It Now price of like $670. No one bid on it. Could I have bid just $1 and won it? It seems too good to be true.

 

It probably had a minimum starting bid.

 

They usually have a reserve price.

In the end, joining a shooting club that also buys guns at cost, will save you a metric ass ton of cash.

Even if they don't say there's a reseve, the dealer usually won't let you buy it for $1 (in theory). Once the bidding ends, it will say something similar to minimum bid not met (done it to me...i too hoped for a $1 gun)

 

normally as said above they have a min starting bid....and while they might claim there is no reserve the min starting bid is their reserve

 

The starting bid is normally reflected in the upper right of the item description page. It might have been a $1 but probably not. If there was no minimum bid, though, than $1 would have won it.

I've bought several rifles and handguns through Gunbroker. It's not a bad way to go as long as you deal with people who have an established good reputation.
