So how can you criticize the behaviour of the so called enemies if your own soldiers act in the same despicable manner? I don't really even care that this happened but all the people defending these actions need to get their head out of their asses. You support or defend the actions of your troops but hate their targets for behaving the same way.

To make it clear: the only reason I have a problem with these US soldiers behaving in such a manner is because of the righteousness of the mission. If you want to be taken seriously in proving your point you can't get any respect by acting like an asshole, no matter how tough it is to mind your manners.

 

when you lose buddies, the war changes for you. it changes you. It seems this debate is more or less split along the lines of those who have lost friends and those who have not. For you who have not, you are lucky. but you will never understand the other point of view.

the act of waging war is not in line with normal human morality. perhaps it should be but it is not. history proves this out time and time again. To put men in such a position ensures that the moral line will to blurred. Understand that men in an impossible situation will make mistakes.

When you find a young GI with his ball's & dick cut off and put in his mouth you lose part of being a human. Perhaps the title to the thread is a bit much, just seeing this brought to light makes my stomach turn a bit. I know this is nothing new, it has just never been brought to the forefront and presented in such a manner. I am disheveled by pretty much every facet of the situation...from the act, the media, seeing what it has done to possibly harden the resolve of the enemy (as well as all who may become enemies), as well as further polarize the population of this nation.

stuff like this might seem like a spur of the moment thing to do dumb and what not but, in the long run it changes you.

my buddy has not been the same since he has been home we barely talk anymore and we used to be best friends. the guy is in his own head it seems like and short of me signing up and going there i don't think i can relate to what he has been through. idk i just feel so bad for the guy's that come back from this shit hole of a country only to find they can't fit in anymore.

With as much respect as possible; all the civis who have never served can STFU about "honor" and "respect" and "setting the example" IMO. Until you put your ass in the uniform and spend the time under the gun then the vast majority of the people who are actually doing/have done the job really don't give a shit about your opinion. Do you tell your doctor how he is doing his job wrong? For the record; playing Call of Duty for three days straight does not make you a subject matter expert in anything but playing a damn game.

This guy seems to be one of the only people who really get the point here. The public motivation for this war is to make things better so acting like savages with public support doesn't really make the US credible when they are trying to straighten out another country.

In what is ultimately a war of morality, I'm pretty shocked to see people support immoral behaviour. I wonder, if it was made public that American soldiers had raped the wives of Taliban members, would the soldiers still be getting support from the "you weren't there so shut the fuck up" crowd? I think we can all agree that both urination on corpses and rape qualify as immoral conduct, so who gets to decide where to draw the line on what is acceptable conduct during war? If we want them to believe our way of life is better we need to prove it by being better people. Behaving like this makes us no better than they are.

And to all those who have served who would try to rudely silence a civilian that disagrees with this sort of action, shove it. You serving in the military does not give you the right to tell people what to think, or the license to act like an asshole. If war turns you into a savage and someone whose behaviour is in line with that of the enemy, why the hell would you go to war?

 

You coulda left of the "With as much respect as possible" part- Cause there was no modicum of respect in that post. Just because you put on a uniform doesn't make you better than anyone else. And just because you seem to think you are better than everyone else- Doesn't mean that the military ignores civilian opinions.

PERFECT example is this group of assbag Marines urinating on corpses. And there are plenty of people who DO wear a uniform that agree- These Marines are a DISGRACE to teir service and their country.

And yeah-If my doctor started exposing his genetialia and/or commiting immoral acts and it came to my knowledge- I would probably say something- to the police. You aren't being told how to fight a war or do yoru job-You are being told how to not act like savages-Big difference and it matters.

I also wouldn't want that last quote attributed to me. Bad things happen everywhere- Thinking that it is okay is a big step in the wrong direction.
