So I took my '08 Access Cab into the dealer where I bought it before the TSB was updated-I was told to pound sand by the dealer and the Customer Service line told me that the springs in my '08 were fine- I set up a case # just to CMA.

Obviously they were wrong cause the TSB changed...So I took it to back to the dealership on Saturday to get that looked at and to get a small oil leak looked at. I got a call Saturday afternoon telling me to call them back-I was busy getting a tattoo...so I did.

They called me this morning and said that they had replaced the rear springs- but the replacements were 3-leaf too (Yeah-My eyebrows shot up when he said that) and they needed more time to replace the front crank shaft seal, where the oil was leaking from.

I'm hoping to get back there this afternoon or early tmrw to look over the springs and get them to order the right parts...We'll see what happens.

I'm continually surprised that dealers aren't more willing to do this when they will get reimbursed by toyota.

Luckily for them-I know a thing or two about assholes- or at least about being an asshole- Little do they know there is a paper copy of the front pages of the TSB in my console- So I can check part numbers before I accept the work and let it go.

They don't get 100% reimbursed-so they do lose potential money- If they spend 3 hours working on my truck at a reduced rate-That's 3 hours they weren't charging some other schmuck full cost labor and parts.

    Update 1-

After the phone call last week-They called back on Monday to say they were finishing up the Crankshaft seal replacement-
I was busy with work yesterday when they called and said it was done-so I went in today to pick up Corbin-They gave me the invoices (no cost to me) and pulled my truck around.
The service writer shook my hand and tried to run off-but I caught him as we shook and said 'If you wouldn't mind hanging around for a sec I wanna look at something- cause I've talked to Toyota before and was told the '08 springs were fine even tho they only had 3 leaves-so I'm going to poke my head under the well and look at the springs" (PS-I already checked the part numbers on the invoice and had the TSB in the console)

Looked at the springs, the invoice, and the TSB and said- "Yeah- We'll have to talk about this" and he goes "But it's off the TSB"-So I flashed him the TSB I had and watched his face drop. He took copies of the TSB I had and was going to make some phone calls and get back to me.

    More to come...

i'm intrigued. My only issue with dealing with assholes like this is I'm always afraid if I pester them to do it right they are going to fuck it up intentionally or just half ass it. However that has never stopped me before

Eh- These guys aren't assholes- yet. They tried to do right by me and they are still working on it. If I don't get a call in a day or two I'll be back on the phone with them pushing the issue more.

He seemed kinda downhearted that he didn't have the right TSB or that I had some other info or something...so we'll see what happens.

Enjoy the popcorn Mac!! I'll be sure to let you know how it turns out!!!

It is stiffer in the rear, corners much nicer, havent put it under load yet. However the dealer put a sticker on the inside of the door stating that the suspension has been modified and now will hold 250lbs less?
I will call them tomorrow to inquire. I was in a hurry today as my daughter is not feeling well.

My truck came with that sticker inside the door... I doubt they added it.

Has the tsb been updated to include the '09s, or do you just have a dealer with some common sense?

I called up the 800 number. Created a case number. Dealer called me. I went to the dealer. they could not replicate the problem. I said BS. Talked to the Service Manger. He said if Toyota would cover it under the 05-08 TSP, he would do it. He called Toyota and they said that yes the 09s will be covered, but it has not been written in yet.

Service manger called me back and told me what Toyota said and ordered the parts for me. I dropped off the truck this morning and they took car of it

They are saying that it has 250# less capacity with the 4 leafs vs. the 3 leafs??

My dealer installed the TSB on my '08 before it was official. Some will some won't??

No, my truck came with the 3 leaf pack and the sticker, but I'm getting the TSB done on Friday.

Just got off the phone with my local service manager. He called HQ in CA and was referred from to the regional service manager who covers all warranty issues in the intermountain west. That guy to the local service manager that the 09 is not covered in this TSB and because they are cracking down during hard times economically, they simply can not allow for this exception. As a result, the service manager said I needed to hold out until I the TSB included 09. Interesting because my part numbers and VSD both match that in the TSB bulletin, but b/c my local service manager couldnt get guarantee from the higher level that they would get reimbursed, he can't get the parts and put the local dealership on the line. I said ok. I asked if I upgraded to an AAL with a OME 3" Lift, would that preclude me from getting the updated springs in the future, and he said no.

Man I can't even get Mazda to honor my warranty or replace something even though they'll get reimbursed BY Mazda. It just pisses me off.

The one issue with getting the AAL and then replacing the springs down the line- is if the AAL fits both sets of springs- You may have to buy another AAL or get the one you buy now reformed or install it backwards (which means you need to make sure the stealership takes it outta the pack they replace).

UPDATE #2- The service advisor I talked to at my local dealership called me while I was flying today and left a message- He ordered the required parts and will be calling me when they come in. I'm very pleased so far-Lil disappointed that they didn't know the difference between the springs- but overall...Bob Tyler Toyota in Pensacola, FL gets the thumbs up from me...
