I currently have a car and a truck. I am no longer interested in maintaining 2 vehicles so I'm going to one truck.

i would never buy another dodge unless its powered by Cummins. sounds like since you infrequently tow and mostly commute the taco is for you

I'm not super hard on my vehicles. I use my truck for hauling, but I'm not a contractor, so it isn't a "work truck".

    I drive 18k-20k per year.

I want to get at least 10 years out of whatever I buy.

No pressure from my friends. They just suggest I drive the Dodge before I bought. I was talking to them yesterday about my quandry, and they both said it sounded like the Tacoma would be a better fit as well. :)

Honestly If you want 10 years out of a truck, I'd defiantly go with a toyota... you could all ways get a crew max tundra = sexy time :D.

Even after 10 years, there will be a significant difference in resale.

I wasn't looking for a full sized truck. Originally I compared the Ranger, Frontier, and Tacoma. Pretty quickly I eliminated all but the Tacoma. I did drive the F150 when I test drove the Ranger, but it was much larger than I was considering, so I wasn't that serious about it. I only drove the 1500 on my friends suggestion.

Good points guys. I really think I'll go with the Tacoma.

I used to own a 2004 Ram 1500 QC with the 5.7 Hemi and Lariat package. That thing was hella cool, with tons of power, with nice interior features. However, it was too much vehicle for a daily commuter. That thing was getting 10-12mpg in the city and 15-16mpg on the highway not to mention it was a bitch to park. I am much happier with the daily ownership of my Tacoma: smaller footprint all around; unless you consistently haul big loads, the Tacoma will fit 90% of your requirements. For the other 10% borrow someone else's truck or rent a trailer. I do miss the power of the Ram, but not the price tag at the pump! Buy what you want, but my opinion says go for the Tacoma.

Your sort of in the same boat I was. I went from a car and SUV to the Tacoma. I was looking for something with the capabilities of my X-Terra, but there are very few vehicles left like that. Once I decided I couldn't get a 4Runner Trail edition at a reasonable price I went with the Tacoma OR. Mileage isnt the best but I wanted something larger (but not to big) after missing a head on collision on the Interstate by no more than an inch.

I recently bought my Tacoma. Wanted a smaller truck, got rid of the Tundra, which the longer I owned, the more I disliked.
I drove a 2012 Big Horn after a co worker bought a loaded one, just to see what he was raving about. I thought it was a nice truck, drove and rode far better than my Tundra. It was according to the fuel economy gauge, mighty thirsty!
The longevity issues would concern me as well.

The Dodge price seems a bit low (4x4-quad cab-hemi) but get the Toyota. I traded a Dodge Dakota last summer for my Tacoma. Dakota ('09) wasn't too much quality.

Tacoma, Frontier, Tundra, or F150. IMO, Toyota kind of went cheap on the Tacomas compared it's other vehicles and other manufacturers. If you dont really need a truck check out the Ford Escape, Nissan Xterra, Toyota 4Runner, and the FJ

Ok first and foremost, if this is a Toyota site, then what happened to the tundra! All this talk about domestic trucks makes me sick!

Had a Dodge before the Tacoma. Got rid of it four years ago. Almost have the repair bills from the Dodge paid off.
