    Hello Forum,

I always like the dual exhaust look on trucks but not the noise (unless it's a V8). On January 8 I had a Y-pipe installed where the pipe starts to turn down after clearing the differential & both tips exit out the sides behind the tires. I have an '08 Prerunner double cab 4.0. The muffler shop tried to sell me a muffler also. I said I just want the look. Well, not only did I get what I wanted but it actually has a nice & low exhaust tone coming out of both pipes. I am very pleased with it.

He was able to leave the OE pipe & just weld the tip to it. I also tie wrapped the brake hoses & there are no issues with this. Even though I haven't seen the pipe get hot enough I still ordered heat resistant tape to wrap the hoses with, just as an extra precaution.:)

Looks like you had to remove your spare from under the truck to get that look?

It must be the time of day that I took the photo (lighting) or the hitch but the spare is there. It's a 265/70r17 the pipe is about 3/4" away from the tire. Heat won't be an issue. I have a customer with the same set up and his spare touches the pipe and it's been fine for almost 2 years now.

Oh damn, you're right. I have pretty crappy resolution (netbook with a tiny screen) and it looked like it was the pipe coming across the rear and turning up to where he said the Y pipe is.

They are not TRD's. They are stainless steel though. He had these at the shop. He supplied the y-pipe & extra exhaust pipe.

    :notsure:

... just wonderin' if you have pics other than that of bicycles, fancy exhaust tips and chrome wheels? Would you have pics of the exhaust that you installed (like pics of the actual exhaust underneath the truck ?

I would love to see pics of the actual configuration and routing of the piping.

    Just askin'.

OK, here are the pics without the bicycles, one of the fancy exhaust tips, & the 16 x 7 OEM steel wheels with chrome skins, LOL!

I wanted a Y-pipe but I didn't specify that so by the time I noticed he had already done that. It still sounds good though. It will be a year in January & no leaks. There is more flow on the right side than on the left but unless you put your hand on the tips you won't notice it. If I ever change my tips I'll ask for a Y-pipe. It's not necessary but I am picky like that.

The difference is minor but it's noticeable. Not the same as a Performance muffler ofcourse but it's there. I think it's a combination of 2 things: the fact that there is now a pipe coming out of the drivers side and the fact that those 2 pipes together make a lower exhaust tone. If you stand behind my truck while someone drives off and you do the same with a stock exhaust piped Tacoma you will notice the difference. Same goes for driving both trucks, you'll hear the diffefence.

I am so fond of these 4.0's that this is the first vehicle in my 23 years of driving that I have not done performance mods to (even my air filter was replaced with a new stock one) but I don't like how they sound with a loud exhaust and having exhaust drone in the cab & I am not criticizing anyone that has that. Thats just my taste. I am very pleased with my outcome. Going on 1 year in January and no problems.
    :)

    Thanks!

I can see where he tee'd into the OEM pipe... and you're probably right in that a y-pipe would even out the exhaust flow.

I have two new oval Tacoma TRD tips that I'm gonna use for my set up!

    Thanks again!
