Being in an area where they salt the roads, I'm surprised the dealership didn't bring that up as a selling point... That's one of the best parts about it, no rust!

OP ... not really hitting you but ... I am beginning to not be surprised about the lack of knowledge about an item one buys that is only 2nd in cost to their home.

Are you saying you knew it was a composite? Looking at it I always thought it was just plastic. I would bet 9 out of 10 people would say it is just plastic.

I agree...seems like so many people don't realize it has a composite bed or think its a plastic bed liner. Then they get home and are like wth??? Some people don't use their heads!!

It's not a secret... in all the literature... starting with the 2005 model... stronger than steel and lighter... and doesn't rust... oh, what a feeling!

I knew because it was advertised pretty heavily when they first came out. Also, it if were plastic, I never would have bought a pick up with a plastic bed. I was weary of the composite but I bought it after they had been out for a few years so didn't get hung up on it.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
^^^This, it was one of the things that I liked that separated it from other trucks.

i had a 2008 access cab tacoma that i bought used certified in 2010 with 19k miles from my friends dealer.right after nuke plant blew in japan my friend called me up from toyota said he had no stock and parts were getting harder to get and would give me new 2011 dc cab same payment because no one was buying new at his store and he could make more on used than new. so i jumped on it without even looking at truck. i pulled up and swaped plates.all i know is i got brand new truck with same payment and less months to pay than origanal deal with 2008 . i still didnt know the 2008 bed was plastic but i was a ford guy my whole life and this all happend in a year.i only use my truck for personal and commuting. i dont four wheel or do construction. i just needed a reliable motor at time being and went out and bought. didnt like anything else at time.but your right i didnt research either:eek:

the dealer tried to convince me that it was a box liner since it had spots to hold lumber to create a platform! i was kinda like na dude nice try that's the composite box. he seemed surprised.. i'm surprised that he didn't know more about the truck he was trying to sell...

i was worried that it wouldn't hold up but so far so good and iv dropped some pretty heavy stuff on it. it does gouge thought...

anyone done the roll on bed liner? or line-x? for now i just have a rubber mat i found but it's not big enough and heavy as f*ck
