Hey guys. Im working on fixing up one of my companies delivery trucks thats been off the road a while after it was in an accident. I have it running again and pretty much ready to go besides some small stuff. One thing i wanted to see if i could fix was the radio. It has the stock radio in it and since its a base model reg cab it just has the cassette/radio. no cd player altho it has a button for CD on the radio itself i guess if you wanted to add it on. So my question is, you can turn the radio itself on and the unit comes on just fine and you can turn the stations etc, but no sound at all comes out. Any ideas??

OK, so I think the first step is to remove a door panel.

Next, inspect the speakers, the surround of the paper speakers (between speaker cone and speaker frame) could be destroyed and the speakers frozen in place.

Hook up any sort of external speaker to a set of the speaker wires. Did sound come out? Replace the speakers.

If no sound, you will have to pull the radio and test for wire continuity from the radio to the door - use an VOM to see if the wires got broken. If you encounter an open circuit you will have to rewire.

If there is no resistance in the wires, then it is highly probable the radio's output section got blown. You will have to change out the radio.

Before embarking on my advice I'd think it through and see if it all made sense. I'm not an electronics tech so there might be logical holes in my steps.

thanks man, what you said makes sense for sure. Im thinking tho that its probly the radio itself. i dont see it very likely that all the speakers whent out completly. just wondering if anyone has had a issue like this before.
