Small lift on 95

So I'm looking to help my Dad put a small lift on his 95. He tows a horse trailer and sags pretty bad. Also when going over bumps his truck has the floaty bounce feeling. He is on a very tight budget so I'm needing some help....

I'm thinking 5100's front and back at 1st setting up front for 1" and then a 1" aal for the rear. Any other ideas? Anyone got pix of this setup? Do I need to get new springs up front? Thanks for the help!!!!

 

Sounds like it at least needs shocks, an aal won't do much if the rear springs are shot. 5100's are fine and new front springs don't add that much to the cost, but it does sound like the rears are done.

 

if he is on a budget a new leaf pack is out of the question.

Bilstein 5100's all around would be a good choice for shocks.

The only thing with an Add a leaf is that most of them are 2'' AAL, so setting the bilsteins at the first position would give the truck some rake.

I would set the bilsteins at the second or third position and run the procomp short AAL from toytec. Since you dad pulls a horse trailer the shorter, stiffer AAL would help handle the load better.


But as already said, a new leaf pack would be ideal if he can save up at all. But if its not possible, an AAL would help handle the load now.

 

Thanks guys I will look into new leaf packs too. I don't wanna lift it to much or he will need new UCA's. Is there a leaf pack that will add minimal lift? Maybe we should just look at replacing with stock suspension. He was just hoping to gain a more aggressive stance too.

 

First gens dont require new UCA's at 3" although im sure its recommended they arent necesarilly needed so you would be fine with 5100's set at the third setting for roughly 2.5" and as stated earlier a new leaf pack would be ideal but budget wise an aal should work fine for now or at least untill he can save up for a new pack

 

Contact Alcan. They can make you a custom pack for the weight. But either way you are looking at 2''+ of lift in the rear.

And us 1st gens don't have your 2nd gen silly UCA problem Espcially the 95. Us 95-96s seem to take lots of lift up front much better then later 1st gens. So go ahead and lift the front with some Eibach coils! 3.5''ish of lift! then you could get the all pro Expo leafs(which are pretty cheap btw) But hold a ton of weight. HOWEVER for expos...they don't fit our year of tacoma as our leaf pack mounts are shorter so you'd have to extend them. So really your best bet for a beefy leaf pack is Alcan, Dever, or Dakar. You'd need new shocks all around, 5100s up front and extended 5125s for the rear. And extend rear brake line(only one tho ) and a BPV bracket like what Jlee makes would be a good thing but not required but id get it if you lift the rear to claim your rear brakes back.


An AAL is just a waste of time at this point. Your leafs are shot by the sound of it.

 

I cant tell what your budget actually is... But for $1100 you can have 5100's all around, new OME 880 front coils, and a new 5-leaf pack from Wheelers offroad. I just did this exact setup and I love it. Those coils give about 1.25" of lift in the front, and the 5-leaf pack gives about 1.5" in the back, and it can hold more weight. Sounds to me like a perfect setup for your wants/needs. I also agree that your leaves are probably shot, and an AAL will not get you the stout ride you are looking for w/ the horse trailor. Like I said, I can't tell what your budget is, but if you're thinking that you're already getting 5100's, an AAL, and possibly new coils anyway... then you're probably already near the price point I'm talking about. I have the 5 pack..and its nice. I think for the weight he will be handling he will need a more beefy pack tho. And the 5 pack is pretty expensive really. I added the AAL to the 5 pack for more lift and now they take quite a bit of weight. But even then, ill probably end up with some Alcans.

yea i know it is. But ill end up with a 8 mostly likely 10 pack from them. Have "6 pack" right now but after sliders, rear plate bumper, and bed rack...plus gear...idk if it will be able to cope..

 

since he doesn't want that much lift, but just added payload capacity, maybe he should do a 5-pack and a timbren kit. If he does an AAL, he'll be raking like crazy when unloaded...

 

Foe the rear leafs you could always search the scrapyards for a wrecked Tacoma or one that didn't pass the frame inspection then add the aal with a set of 5100's. That would probably be the cheapest way to go.

 

If you going to lift it you need to do it right, going over bumps with the floaty bouncy feeling, your shocks are no good and you need to replace those, it will help slightly with the sag, also the leafs as said need to be replaced, you dont lift it because its sagging. lifting it with worn out shocks is going to make for a terrible ride.

lift is the last thing you should look at, the ride will improve a whole lot along with handling, braking, and steering. I just replaced the shocks on my 95 that were original, i noticed improvements in everything. I didnt go with billys though, as i dont have the taco i have the pickup, i put some ranchos on there and im quite happy with them. I got the set of 4 for 186.

Yes shocks are still very important no doubt. But this guy is hauling a horse trailer, he needs better load capacity. So he need a new leaf pack. And i had Rancho shocks...3 of 4 were leaking...wouldn't recommend em.

I do think that the idea of adding some leafs from S10s and such is a great idea tho and looks like it works great. Either way. He needs a good expo type pack. Not for lift, for the load capacity, Lift is just going to be a by product of that.

 

i'll keep an eye on mine, they have a lifetime warrenty so we'll see. i know about horse trailers

i would still replace the shocks first, worn out shocks add extra wear to the tires and brakes. leafs would be second on the list, then a lift. its no doubt his trucks sags hooked up to a horse trailer with bad shocks and worn out leafs.

 

I have re-built a leaf pack on another members truck with a bout 1.5" of lift and he says it rides a ton better than before and holds up to weight better, Dont know what kind of vehicle the donor leafs came off though i just found them in a buddies junkyard laying under a truck and he gave them to me so all we had to pay for was new center pins for a total cost of $4.18

 

He wants to pull the trigger on a new leaf pack lots have been mentioned. So 5100s up front, 5125's rear. What's a good leaf pack for 2" while handling the extra load? And with 2" rear what should we set the fronts at? O.r what springs would keep it level.... Maybe even a tiny rake so he's not nose high when towing?

 

i dunno about that part, is there a weight distributer on the trailer?
