27 years happy ... but it takes work to get anything out of it ... communicate and learn to accept your differences. My wife and I have things that we agree to disagree on. I love the couples who say they never argue ... I always reply that "someone is holding a lot of stuff in!"

This shouldn't be the case imo. My 1st was like that. That bitch was bi-polar. One minute it was great, then there was the times that I "thought" all was good and with no warning she'd be like  for no reason. I couldn't live like that. You've heard the term "walking on eggshells"? I lived it for a year. Never again!

I think if you have to post a thread questioning it and your own, you're already headed the wrong direction. I can relate, though, as I am divorced. However, I'm soon to marry the perfect woman. So to answer your question, no and yes. No if you're with the wrong person. Yes if you're with the right person (who doesn't mind you spending your paychecks on building your Taco... and will even encourage you to take it off road!)

    Good luck

Yes, actually it did. She played me for sure. I knew within a month after getting married I had made a mistake. Right after our marriage I saw a new side of her and was like WTF? But people kept telling me the first year was the hardest so I tried to stick it out against my better judgement. It was a year of mostly hell with the few good times mixed in.

I am responding to divorce statistics post made several pages ago. Divorce statistics are hard to understand because they do not clearly state that 50% of marriages end up in divorce. If you look at census data, however, you can clearly see a trend in data. Absent children and widowers this is the trend:
49-75% of all first time marriages (vary by state) end up in divorce within first 7-15 years of marriage.
25%-35% of all second time marriages (vary by state) end up in divorce within 3-5 years of marriage.
75% of all third marriages end up in divorce.
Most common sited reasons for divorce are finances, lack of communication, poor sex life, cheating.

Very important thing to consider is that BECAUSE divorce is legal and BECAUSE our current judicial system is exploited by lawyers... it is profitable to divorce.

In the good old days (see people married for 30+ years)... they were through ups and downs, unemployment and underemployment, wars and social expectations of gender roles (through time periods) that all in all saved a lot of marriages.

Today divorce rate involves custody of children, allimonies, division of family wealth. Process is ugly and usually very disadvantageous to men.

In my life for example I have 8 grand fathers and 8 grand mothers, I have 2 fathers (biological and step father), all my neighbors are divorced, many of my friends too, both my parents are on 2nd marriage. Most of our friends and acquaintances are on their 2nd marriage.

I figure most people use 1st marriage as a practice run and when they think they can get better elsewhere they split only to eventually find out that same type problems exist in all families in one context or another.

I chuckled at the meatwoman reference. Then I saw your username and made the connection. I bet you call her meatwoman in person, and not for the reason I originally thought.

About a year. We already knew each other before that, not real good but did know each other. I do recommend to anyone to not rush it. I said I wouldn't my 2nd time and didn't. Ironically this time around we apparently could have and she gives me crap about it from time to time.
