its going to be 'our' project. (ie...I will be doing all the hard work...but thats cool...its a freaking FJ40!)

She shares a toyota camry with her dad. She doesn't work right now and is going to use savings to get the FJ up to par. But she has to drive to school...so the camry will be her main commute vehicle.

According to the guy selling it the truck runs and drives fine, but the brakes are fucked up (no details because she talked to him)...so its not road worthy right now.

As long as the motor and tranny seem fine to me and its not too rusty its pretty much a go if she can get it for the right price.

yeah, I am going to knock on the frame and shit with a small ball-peen hammer if the guy doesn't mind.

Rust on the body is no problem, because my uncle is an ex-body man by trade and can weld in sheet metal to fix the body no problem. We will do a garage paint job too just because its going to be a trail rig, not a show queen.

you don't need to get new bump stops when you redo the suspension. the stock ones will still keep you from bottoming out a shock. the logic is just that if you're putting on all of these nice parts, why keep the factory bump stops that as hard as steel and barely do any good.

the u bolt flip just gives you some extra clearance, is simpler, and a lot stronger that stock.

also, with the icon aal, remember that that is a 3 leaf kit. still not a full new leaf pack, but it's a whole ton better for your leaf springs in the long run than a single aal

Awesome! glad they worked out. can't wait to see the pictures

lol, happens to all of us.

the ones jason has now are only 2.5 inches though, so you wouldn't run into the pinding issue. they put the assembley at just a hair shorter than the extended icons at full extension.

Looks good. If you use those rotopax(sp?) things you may be able to figure out a way to mount them underneath the rack.

Do you really like the go fast stuff or are you more into the slower technical stuff? I can tell you the OME kit is pretty good at both and a boat load cheaper than some remote resi's. Realistically you'd probably have a hard time overheating the OME's. They are so much bigger than stock. My ride is also relatively plush. All I'm saying is don't rule them out because they aren't the biggest baddest shock out there. Ask Christina, JK, and Brandon how it rides.

    that would be great man.

Doors aren't a priority (depending what else needs fixed)...but an eventual need.

I was also weary about the diamond plate and whats lurking underneath....:spy:

Its amazing how many parts you can find for these parts on ebay.

i do really like the rotopax. seen them on other bed racks and liked them. that'll probably have to be the kind of thing that i look into after i build the rack to see how much room i really have.

Thanks for clearing that up Colin.

Jason, I have had the full OME kit in my cart on toytec at least a dozen times the past month and didn't pull the trigger. I think you are right, for anything that I will do, that kit is probably plenty. It is hard to guess what I will be doing in the future with the truck, but overlanding has ALWAYS had intrigued me, so I spend a ton of time on expiditonportal looking at builds. Some go Icon, some go OME.

I have told myself I'm not buying anything (except the UCAs) before the NY trip, I will have 3500 miles and 6 days to decide for sure...who knows, this might come down to a coin flip lol. I really appreciate the honest opinions from everyone, I would hate to rely solely on the retailer for this type of info.
