    Hi all,

I have a few questions regarding an installation of a car alarm/remote start.

    1. Why do they tell you to cut the starter wire and only connect it to the motor side? why not do it like every other wire where you just splice it in.

    2. On the Flash logic wire diagram they have a wire cut with a picture of scissors over the top of it? Does anyone know what this means?? Thanks

The picture of the wire with scissors over the top is saying to cut the wire to tie two different wires into it instead of just tapping it, usually because each side of that wire is connected to a different circuit.

The reason they ask you to cut the starter wire instead of tapping it is
1- for a starter disable function even most basic remote start systems have a starter disable circuit that disconnects the starter when the car is locked or the alarm is on if your system has one.

2- most new remote starts also have a built in anti grind feature so that if someone turns the key when the car is already Sunni g it will not engage the starter motor.

so if you connect the remote starter to the motor side of the starter wire, where does the key side get connected to?

If you are using a separate relay to do starter kill key side of wire would go to pin 87a and starter side of wire would go to pin 30 on the relay.

If the starter relay is built into the remote start itself there will be two wires for the starter circuit. All companies use different colors but some of the common ones are purple to the starter side and green to the key side. But check the installation guide for the color coding.

    What brand remote starter?

Code alarm has a built in starter kill relay on most of there units read the wire diagram there should be a wire for the key side starter wire.

The only wire says motor side....there is not another wire that says starter side. WWW.Crutchfield.com has the installation guide available if someone would want to double check. I will post the link to where you can get it.

I'm trying to get there site to load but am it might not I'm on my phone and live out in the mountains, I haven't been a code alarm dealer for a long time but years ago it was white and whit/red were the starter interrupt wires. I'll edit this when I can get the site to load

Yeah wire and white/red are no longer starter interrupt wires. I haven't been a code alarm dealer since 1997 so I figured it would have changed.

Yeah there is no built in starter kill relay, if you aren't going to add one (here is a chip in the key so the starter kill wouldn't add much security) then DON'T cut the starter wire just tap the purple wire into the starter wire like the rest of he ignition harness.

OK. Thanks for all the help I really appreciate it! So on this particular alarm I shouldn't cut any wire in half, is that correct? I don't need a starter kill so.I'm just going to install it like it shows...however the on the wire diagram it shows that I need to wire thepurple one to the motor side so it seems like they tell you to cut the wire?

Nope don't cut the wire if you cut it and connect the purple to the starter then your key would no longer start the truck.

OK thanks for all the help....I just have a few more questions before I undertake the installation.

1)Where in the world is the ECU?? I have looked everywhere searching for the B5 white plug that I need for the negative parking lights and the door lock data

2)I need to splice in two wires that are behind the glove box on the passenger side, IMI Data and IMO Data. Do those two wires get fed to the drivers side somewhere? I figure it would be much easier tapping into them at the drivers side then running two long wires all the way over to the passenger side.

3)The Parking light output is in that B5 white plug mentioned in #1. Where is the parking light input?

4)Any ideas on what I can connect to the aux. wire to?

5)The main issue I am having is with the 8 pin Input harness. I will list them off in case you cant see the installation manual. I'm confused on some of the terminology.
Pin 1: Instant trigger input(-)....Says Ground input for external sensor??
Pin 2: Door Trigger input(-)...Says wire will send - input when door is open
Pin 3: Door trigger input(+)...Says wire will send + when door is open
Pin 4: External start input(-)...Says will activate remote start when ground pulse is applied from external device.
Pin 5: Hood pin input(-).......I understand this one
    Pin 6: Neutral safety input(-)
Pin 7: Brake input(+)....dont need with the FLCAN
Pin 8: Tach input.......Dont need with the FLCAN

I know that is a lot to answer, but any info is greatly appreciated!! You have been a great help!

1- the instant trigger input is for an additional sensor like a glass break, motion etc. probably not used in your application. Can just cap it off and use later if you add something like that.

2- the door trigger wires are inputs not outputs. You will only use one the reason the alarm has both is because some vehicles have a positive signal for the door trigger and some have a negative. In the tacoma it is negative.

3- the - remote start activate input is another you won't use that wire is for activating remote start with a different device (usually a factory keyless remote) very few applications use that.

5- yeah the hood pin is. Pretty self explanatory.

6- just ground the neutral safety input that isnt needed on a newer car but the remote start will not activate if it does not see ground on that input.

I am not trying to discourage you but please understand allthough it is not a lot of equipment the installation of a remote start alarm is a BIG project plan a whole day to do it. It might not take you that long but it could there will be at least an hour of programming and such after it is installed. I have been an installer for 17 years and it takes me about 3 hours to do in one of these trucks. Not too hard just take your time.

Is it cranking and not turning over? If so its probably the immobilizer bypass not programmed right. As for the windows yes you can controll them with the aux output but you need a control module. The best one to use is the dei 530t it will controll 2 windows and give you auto up an down on them as well. I you have a double cab you will need 2 to controll all 4 windows.

The car goes through the safety checks and tries to start...doesn't crank or anything. Sounds like the fuel pump starts up though...on the Tocantins the green light blinks meaning it is programmed correctly. The only thing that I could not get programmed is the tach, so I put it in tachless mode. That is as far as I got...everything else works though. And like we discussed before it doesn't have to do with the starter wire not getting cut but spliced into?

Almost sounds like the remote start is not putting 12v out. Double and triple check all your wiring and connections. I will try to find you a diagram of the truck wiring
