I just rolled over 5,000 miles with my 2011 DCSB Prerunner. My only regret is that I didn't get the tow package, a lack of due diligence on my part. I haven't needed it, it would just be nice to have it.

Aside from that, I love the truck. My prior truck, a crew cab Silverado with a 4.8 V-8 doesn't do well in comparison. I find the Tacoma more comfortable, has better acceleration, pulls my boat better, and manuvers much better. On top of that I'm averaging 3-4 MPG higher than the Silverado delivered under all conditions.

Well new Member and new Taco owner here...so I'll just tell my story.

    This was my old truck.

    IMG_0115_9e242d3552876a62fcff0986185fd5b79463d4f1.jpg

    12-14mpg on the highway

I use to build toys like this

    IMG_0181_d0599c329a3f44441124f331dad760d3a5f2821e.jpg

I was never really hauled that much, the biggest thing I pulled was bikes and atvs..the room was nice but the gas was killing me, also bigger tires, engines, and overall bigger trucks cost alot more $$$$

I know the taco won't be great on gas but I got around 19.5mpg around town thats alot more than I am use to..plus 57 bucks to fill it up compared too 90 and getting more mileage...resale value is a plus. Overall though..I'm 6"4 245lbs..not a small guy but the truck fits me well..I can fit people in the back, still haul bikes and what not, get descent mpg..and still has enough power to cut donuts and roast tires on pavement. Overall it's a sporty truck too. Something about the seating I like..I almost feel like im in car and its very comfortable.

Only things I wish it had at the moment is a Eletric locker.

AFter I finish building my new bike I will start on the truck...thinking maybe just e-locker and supercharger.

Just did a minor road trip in a compact car and that made me realize just how very comfortable the Tacoma truly is. And the mileage isn't that much worse. And I can haul a whole bunch of stuff. And it hasn't had the slightest glitch in a year and a half.

... so yeah. I'd say I'm happy with it!

I like the truck overall... but I cant understand the motor as far as the v6 goes. Toyota could have done so much better as far as fuel economy and performance by offering the 4.6 liter v-8 as an engine choice.

As far as trucks go, I chose well. It's a very utilitarian vehicle that isn't too large like a full size half ton, but it's still a point A to point B vehicle for me. I prefer sporty cars. Currently, my truck isn't all that much fun to drive, but it handles the best I've seen for a truck.

    Am I happy? Define happy.

    It's okay I guess.

Bought a 93 4x4 Toyota Pickup new and just traded it this past summer. Thought I was buying a truck, this Tacoma is more of an SUV with a bed. Had hoped for the durability of my previous Pickup, it just doesn't seem to be there. So much for Lean Manufacturing...

I've owned a lot of vehicles and I have to say with all honesty, I have a special relationship with my Taco. It's been one of the most enjoyable vehicles I've owned. Is it perfect? No. but neither is my wife and I still love her. :) Sometime it's the quirks that make things the most endearing.

Love the truck. Had a 08 and saw the grey.....went and got it the next day. First one was silver. Still do not understand the stock tires. They could have done better. I tell everybody to get one or show them why they should.

My 2011 4 cyl, 4x4, extended cab has almost 5,000 miles on it now. Here is a short list of things that I do not like about it:
    1) Fuel mileage runs only around 17-18 mpg around town (the same as my 2000 Dodge Dakota V-6). I was expecting better.
    2) The manual transmission is notoriously difficult to drop into 1st gear while moving.
    3) When empty, the passenger seat back loudly rattles back and forth on bumpy secondary roads.
    4) The owners manual specifies that only full synthetic oil is to be used. As a long term owner, I do not consider this to be a good thing. I would like to be able to use any oil I want to.

I like it, but don't exactly love it. I wish there was more competition in the mid-size truck space, like there is in the full-sizes. IMO, the mid-sizes don't get as much respect from the manufacturers. Ford seems to have done a great job on the F-150 over the years, but the Ranger is left for dead. GM has the Colorado/Canyon which just seems sub-par to me. And Dodge gave up as well. I'd guess part of the reason why is that they want to keep that customer base in the full-size trucks, so I don't expect much from them. So it's Toyo vs Nissan basically. And those two aren't exactly knocking it out of the park in terms of specs. All in all, it's a good truck though.

Yes but.....2 months ago when I purchased this Doublecab 4x4 TRD Off Road, I was having a hard time trying to decide which truck would be BEST for my needs [and wants]. The 'other' choice was the TUNDRA w/5.7 engine in the CREWMAX version. Wow, that back seat is as big as my living room couch! I was concerned about a few things with the Tundra, purchase price for one would have been about $7K or more than my $31K Tacoma TRD OR 4X4 for one; and, the back seat of the Crewmax will allow folding down the seat BACKS, but the seat bench itself won't fold up to allow for TALL storage of 'stuff'. I use my truck daily for a service route and store non toxic materials and supplies in the back seat. The Tacoma I have works well in either of 2 ways: fold bench seats up and forward - and I can fold the seat backs down OR leave them up. When I fold them down the headrests get a bit crushed against the bottoms of the benches which are folded up against the front seat backs. The foam might take a set if left in this position for a time. I may leave the seat backs up and just keep the benches folded....ANYWAY...
The ONE THING that bothers me about the Tacoma is ENTERING and EXITING the driver's seat which is something I do SEVERAL TIMES A DAY. LOW OVERHEAD of the door frame is something I have to conciously be aware of, and have to duck my head a lot or do a bit of finageling to get my self into the truck! I don't think the Tundra has that problem.
GAS MILAGE: "Fuelly.com" indicates the 5.7 Tundra motor, while a really fun and powerful engine [really~!], averages between 14 and 16mpg. Tacoma V6s show 19-20 mpg average. Mine is getting only 16 HOWEVER it's been all city driving and no running in overdrive, yet. I prefer to run a brand new engine in 'non overdrive' for about a thousand miles and at lower speeds [under 60mph]. Now that I've got 1,600 miles on it I'll be starting to use OD and 'normal speeds' with occasional 15-20 mile runs on the Interstate. That will bring the MPG up I'm sure........{ok, I HOPE~!}.
I've ridden in a Tundra 5.7 and when you give it throttle it is one amazing ride. I'm afraid if I had purchased the Tundra I would be tempted to 'rod it' too much.
My son is 36 years old and is wanting a Tacoma exactly like mine pretty badly. He's owned 2 Tacomas before and is presently driving an '06 Mustang GT which the novelty of is wearing thin. He wants a truck again, a Tacoma. If I keep itching for a Tundra CREWMAX, I might just sell my Taco to him.
For now EVERYTHING else about the Tacoma is very appreciated....I love it. Feels great to be in everyday.
One thing, I almost can't wait to drive a tank full of fuel out just to enter another 'fill up' on FUELLY.COM.....LOL~!

One other truck I was almost ready to buy: Nissan Frontier 4 door. However my family said they all liked the [looks mainly] TACOMA MUCH better so....
The final straw with the Nissan was when I saw a fairly new one at a meeting and asked the owner about it. He also does 'route work' in his. He said the only thing was that he was getting an actual 11 to 14 mpg, city and highway combined!!! His may have been a fluke but it helped me decide to go with a TACOMA.
