yes it is, but when other idiots your same age have shown that they can't handle the responsibility of almost 200 HP in a 400 lb vehicle, the insurance company needs you to pay up front.

:( That's the "new" American way ... majority of good folks end up paying for the screw ups. Insurance is a scam ... but we have to have it! Damned if you do...damned if you don't.

EDIT: Scam might be a little strong. But like most things...there's a lot of greed that drives the rates to be higher than they need to be. IMHO

they usually wont do it on busy roads, but they get a little carried away and f their stuff up...and themselves sometimes.
    X2!!!!!!!

EDIT: and example of that, i was in high school and this girl (i went to school with) stoped at a green light, so of course i bumped into her, f'ed up my grill pretty good, barely dented her bumper, she waits till last minute to file a claim, ends up getting a new car (sold her old car which had a lot of issues she parked 3 cars over from me everything on it squeaked, used the money as a down payment on a new one, i was doing under 15, the light had just turned green and she stoped in the intersection)

well a couple months later, im driving down the road in my exploder with my jacked up grill, didnt know it was her i was behind. next thing i know shes slamming on the brakes in the middle of the road for no reason!! there was no one else around, no critters crossing the road, no roads to turn on, she just locks up the brakes, thankfully i was far enough behind to stop before i hit her. i passed her a little farther down the road,i dont like being behind crazies, when i passed her, i saw it was her, i was so mad i didnt just plow into her and total her new car.
