driveline vibration fix write up..................may work for you too.

i had some vibrations thru my driveline that were starting to annoy the hell outta me. the vibes thru my steering wheel were due to one or two of me steelies being slightly warped, but putting my stock wheels and a new set of tires on helped that. but i could feel the vibes thru the floor board a bit, especially around 40 to 45 mph, and around 55 to 65 mph. here is what i did............

took and cut 2 pieces of 1/4 flat bar aluminum and drilled 3/8ths holes thru the center.



then........i unbolted the carrier bearing on the drive shaft, and put the spacers in place, and then tightened the bolts up.




for my truck.....dropping the carrier bearing a quarter of an inch helped alot with the mild driveline vibrations. it may not work for all trucks with all the different lift setups that people have, axle shims may work a bit better............and you can stack washers if you wanted too, but the spacers i made seem a little more steady than stacked washers do. hopefully..............this will help some of ya'll out if you are experiencing some driveline vibes.

*i am out of spacers for now.....not sure when/if i'll get any extra scrap to make more.*

 

just got the OME carrier barring drop from ups. bet yours was $15 bucks cheaper!! we'll see if it is the fix for me too.

By the way the 2nd gen OME spacers are 1/4" too.

 

should be about the same bro,really. how thick are the spacers from the ome kit?? and i just used some alum flat bar that i had at work..................so its kinda a free/cheap mod to do.

yep definitely would be more cost effective to get the metal from work. I didnt luck out so I had to order from Toytec, but still only 20 bucks, 9.99 for the part and 9.99 for shipping. Hate it when it works out like that.

 

well.....that aint too bad, especially if it fixes the problem. hopefully.....this write up will help someone out tho.

Yep I should be making it down on friday night, late again b/c work, but i'll be there. The carrier barring drop fixed most all my vibes, I think it may have not completely fixed it because its the long bed but not sure. I'm happy with the low cost and easy 5 minute fix.

Props to Tacomaman06 for making these and mailing them out on his own time (and dime!). I received a set tonight, installed them in less than 5 minutes, and took care of 95% of the only vibes I had (takeoff shudder b/w 5mph-7mph).

hmm this might solve my shudder, ive been getting one from 5-8mph after i installed my OME complete kit...props for the write-up!

 

i made mine. .35" thick and installed them tonight. wow what a difference this makes, i have absolutely no vibrations. the only concern i have is that the screw doesnt pop out of the top bolt very much so where do i get the same grade bolt but longer so i can put a washer and extra nut on top to insure it stays there so it doesnt just fall of while im driving.

 

Does anybody know the Torque specs on these bolts? I just got done with mine but want to Torque the bolts to the corrects specs. Thanks.

 

not surte of the exact torque setting....but i tightened mine by hand...cranked down pretty good.........and just check them every few weeks....havent loosened up at all.

 

mine havent either and i did some offroading with it since and actually seemed tighter than when i originally tightened them. i tried to unbolt them...didnt happen lol
