sometime you need to sacrifice weight for durability
i freaking love that filter. i have used the hiker pro a few times and it works like a charm.....only down side is that when everyone sees how fast your getting your water they come asking if you can fill em up haha.

I just got done testing it out in the sink. WOW!!!! The adapters for the bladder took about 5 mins to put on. Went to the sink and filled it up, ran a few pumps through the filter to get excess carbon particles out, connected the hose to the bladder and started pumping. Filled the 1 liter bladder in just under a minute!!! This will be SOO much better than the Katadyne water bottle filter that you squeeze. I am not exactly sure when I will get to use it next, maybe february, but I will post back with a review after I truly use it.

 I was looking at those last night. I think I may give one a try to cut down on weight when I'm hiking...I usually have my hydration bladder and a bottle or two for longer day hikes and the weight is killing me. I'm almost always around snow fed streams so I have a good source of water.

And I think that I accomplished the impossible last night...I went shopping at REI and actually left with more money then I had when I got there. :) No, I did not rob the place. I ordered my jacket before Christmas and then they dropped the price like a day or two after...asked for a price adjustment last night and they obliged. Walked out $21 richer.

Yes, that's the filter I got to replce my old Sweetwater, which I was ready to throw off the top of Whitney in a fit of rage. It is badass. 1 liter, 1 minute, and the adapters are nice when you are leaning down over streambanks etc. and trying to keep clean stuff clean and not drop stuff or fall in, etc.

I can definitely tell I will be able to save a little bit of weight. If you want something to just stop at a stream and fill a bottle up, I would go with that Katadyne Exstream. I have the micro version but my dad has the exstream. that is perfect if you just want to scoop up some water and go.

I have a feeling when the REI opens here, I wont be able to ever walk out with more money than I went in with.

credit cards are bad news man......oh and be careful with that filter in cold weather. if you leave water in it and it freezes you could break it.

I hate credit cards. lol I am not too bad off right now but damn... I could have paid for everything with cash at least 5 times now and not had debt.

Thanks for the heads up. I will have to figure out a way to dry it out... wonder if setting it next to the camp fire (without it melting) will work...

just give it a few pumps before you put it up and that will clear it.

When I got done testing it yesterday, I pumped it about 5-6 times, shook it and heard water in it so I opened the filter and took the cartridge out and there was about 1/4 cup of water in the bottom:confused:

Another good trick is to add a pinch of salt, or gatorade mix to the water, it doesnt take much salt to interfere with water's ability to freeze quickly ;)

Did a little sewing work Friday and tested it out over the weekend. Seems to work pretty good.
