factory battery finally died

my 2006 factory battery finally died on me. truck had beens starting great and then it go down to 20 degrees or so and went to start it and it was GONE.

took it out and got it tested at auto zone. and it came back less than 100 CCA's. Not a bad run for a battery if you ask me.

and before anyone says anything, i didn't leave anything on lol.

 

Wow your 2006 battery lasted that long?! You should be proud.

my '07 battery was done in '09

 

So what did you replace it with?....

 

Well i was wanting to get a optima, but seeing as im out of work at the moment i got a duralast gold :/ its literally the exact same specs as oem. and actually had almost twice the run time of the optima. but i was able to get military discount on it and got it for like $80.

 

My original battery is still truckin on my 07. But then again only 43k miles on it

 

Mines about to go, thats what I will probably do also.

 

The batt on my 06 took a shit at 70k.

 

Is that tow package (27F) or non-tow battery (24F)?

 

My oem battery on my 05 died about last year, which I think it was at about 75k miles.

 

Miles dont matter on batterys, folks..its age,heat and cold that kill them

 

how can you tell? what are the signs?

 

my 05 battery was gone in 2010 after a lot of audio upgrades, surprised it lasted as long as it did

 

Slow start is really the first key..usually time to replace when you know its getting old, and dosent turn over easily anymore

 

My 05 factory battery just died in October. No complains from me, others barely lasted 3 years in my GM trucks.

 

Put an Optima in my 2007 this past October (@56K)...but it was preventative on my part. Work nights and truck cold soaks overnight in parking lot. Didn't want to wait for it to fail when it was -20F or something. Which is also why I went Optima...got it at NAPA for @ $190 w/ Mil Discount. ... I know... that's a lot of money for a battery.

 

I just replaced my original battery in my 05. Not to bad, 6 years and 89K miles. I too went with the duralast gold as the replacement.

 

Those larger batteries in our trucks with the heavy duty towing package really do last forever. I'm still on my original battery, and it cranks like day one.

 

the 04 oem battery for my Chevy express plumbing van just went out a month ago with 235,000 miles on that.. but the truck died after 4 1/2 years

 

Especially as temps drop too. CCA rating is what makes a battery. Cold will bring that rating down. When it drags on cold starts, you're probably ready for a new one.

MQQSE, $190 discounted! Damn! Does it last 2x as long as an $80 battery or have crazy high CCA's? I just shop them by CCA and warranty for the best price....and that's usually in the $80 range, give or take.

 

My truck runs a little weird in the cold anyway. More engine noise, even once it's warmed up. Seems that way, at least. But then it was about 12 below. The driver wasn't running very well either
