Tonneau Covers tri fold

Just curious if anyone knows what brand of tonneau cover uses the latch system instead of the pully cord. haha if that makes any sense. When you open the tail gate some tonneau covers have a cord you pull to release the cover. Others have the latch/ clamp setup. I saw it in the showroom and couldnt find a brand name to source it. But they want about 1k plus. any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated....cant wait to ride and test her out in the snow....(the truck that is) haha.

Advantage HardHat FTW! At least I think that's what you meant by latch/clamp system... Look up the video of them on YouTube and you'll get a clear picture to confirm.

 

Why pay the premium price of a "hard" cover and still have it look and deteriorate like a vinyl cover. Seems like the worst of both worlds. You have the extra weight of the hard cover and the shorter lifespan of the vinyl cover. Im going to say Advantage HardHat FTLose

 

They don't seem that different from the outside. The latch system on the TonnoPro seems to be of lower quality but the aluminum ribbed system and the functionality seem pretty similar. I actually like the fact that the HardHat is a hard cover. If somebody wants to cut open the TonnoPro with a knife, can they? They can't with the HardHat. Vinyl deteriorating? Maybe it's a problem in PHX where you live, but here in the PNW I just give it the occasional maintenance with 303 and it looks like new so far. Time will tell, since I've only had mine 6 months, but the material seems to hold up OK for other people on TW. OP is from Calgary so I'm not sure if that would really be an issue.

How would the TonnoPro hold up to a foot of snow? I used an AutoAnything discount and probably paid $200 more than TonnoPro, but I personally feel it's worth it. At least people can take a look at the options and decide for themselves what they want. Glad you like your TonnoPro - have you received it yet?

 

You definitely make a good point about the snow. I forget that white stuff exists. I havent received mine yet, not sure what the delay is. I just sold my big unwieldy fiberglass tonneau on craigslist so I guess in my mind I see the two ends of the spectrum as, fiberglass painted hard cover or inexpensive folding or roll-up vinyl cover. I hope the vinyl lasts a decent amount of time but the sun is pretty brutal here so Im guessing Ill have to keep it lubed up otherwise Ill have issues. Wow. That one is about $500 more than I paid, but I found myself lusting after it when I went to the site. It's pretty sweet.

 

I saw this one at the mall. Must've been custom, it was all diamond plate. You can't see it from the crap-ass cell phone pic, but it folds open. Wasn't my cup of tea but looked bullet-proof.

 

thanks for everyones input.. i've decided im going to go with the extang.... slick setup.. little pricy but hey, cars arent cheap... No point in buying a nice truck and then penny pinching at this point...

fyi.. the extang tri fold is a beauty!!!! its worth the cake....

 

Seeing the "birth" of the tri-fold covers come about and everyone else join with their take on it ... if you are looking for the vinyl style, Extang wins. Second choice is Advantage Torza.

I purchased a Rugged cover Tri-fold and it was awesome. It is similar to the tonnopro but I think it is a little better. They look identical from a distance, but the tonnopro has single stitching seams where the rugged cover has double stitched seams and comes with a LED light mounted on the underside. I live in San Antonio TX where the sun kills the stitching quickly. My friend had a tonnopro on his chevy and the stitching started to break after about 18 months, I just sold my 5' tonneau after two years and it still looked new. I just bought a new 2012 tacoma with the 6' bed and ordered a new one to go with it the very next day.

I got it off e-bay for 289 including shipping from truck accessories warehouse....

Oh, I added the tonneau and a K&N filter and my truck went from 15.2 mpg to 16.4... so it seems the combo will help my wallet in the long term too.
