Quick question about exhaust

Does chopping the exhaust above the rear axle benefit you in any way? other than you don't see it and it doesn't catch mud behind the tire? thinking about chopping mine and was wondering.

also i heard carbon monoxide can build up under the bed and it can leak into the cab? not so sure about that but if thats true i wouldn't do the mod

absolutely no benefit except for looks. and yes if you are stopped with the engine idling it is more likely to get carbon monoxide in the cab. its not a problem if your moving.

had a tailpipe bust on a pathfinder while on a long road trip...damaged the inside of the truck above the break. I would run it to the exterior of the vehicle...

 

If you have an aftermarket muffler you might get some change in sound. I had a Flowmaster super 40 on stock pipes and had a wicked drone at 1500 RPM. After I dumped it over the axle I lost the drone and the exhaust note was actually a little quieter. And yes if you leave your truck running while stopped you will get some build up of exhaust gas under the bed.

 

Clearance, keeps you from coming off the rear tire and straight down on the exhaust pipe, shoving it into the body panel.

I had to cut my exhuast right behind the muffler due to trail damage....as a result the hot gasses dumped right onto the housing....the housing got so that my ABS sensor wires actualy melted. I also now thinking that as Chris4x4 mentioned, all that excessive heat in ghe heat as a result may have contributed to my rear ring and pinion failures. I have recently added a small turndown pipe that I purchased from pep boys to help direct the exhaust gasses away from the axle housing
