Goldwing in a Tacoma?

Has anyone loaded a Goldwing in the back of their Tacoma? I have a 2010 Access Cab and would like to be able haul the Goldwing in the back. I've read horror stories about tailgates failing. The Goldwing weighs ~800lbs.

 

I'd seriously consider a trailer for a bike that big. That thing would be a beast to get into and out of the truck bed. If you do haul it in the bed, I'd definitely look into either internal steel reinforcing for wood to go under the tire and spread the weight across the tailgate (plywood that runs from the front of the bed to the rear of the tailgate works or relentless fab makes a steel cover that adds rigidity). Make sure you have secure tie down points, I'd put d-rings on the frame bolts, that's a heavy bike!

I have hauled my Ducati with no issues, but it weighs less than half of your Goldwing.

 

I would rather use a trailer. (That Goldwing can probably pull the Tacoma on a trailer)

 

Trailer it defiantly I wouldn't trust that much weight on the tailgate even with the re-enforcements.

 

Guys, I understand and appreciate the advice. I have a trailer and use it occasionally. I'm just trying to find out if anybody more brave than I am has put a Goldwing in the bed of their Tacoma.

 

Well imo it's a bitch to get a 500 pound dirt bike in the back of a truck with any kind of height to it much less a 1000+ pound gold wing. I'm sure it can be done without any problems and be put in the bed without any problems but I wouldn't do it myself.

 

Your DB weighs 500lbs!? . I thought they were supposed to be light. My sportbikes weigh less than 400.

 

I think it would be fine, just put a sheet of plywood under the rear tire to spread the load. The trac system holds my KX250 up o.k. (230lbs) but I added D rings up front to be safe.

 

Yea may have exaggerated that number a little bit. My old KX80 wasn't but 200 and my CRF probably 250-300. The last bike I've ridden/loaded was a KLR650 and that's every bit of 400. You have to forgive me I've been out of the ridding world for about 2 years since I wrecked my bike and dislocated my hip. I'm done with dirt for a while because there aren't any good places around here to really ride without spending a small fortune to get there.

 

x2, that's a heavy bike for the dirt! My 750 doesn't weigh that much.

If you already have a trailer, I wouldn't even attempt putting the Goldwing in the bed. Nothing to do with brave, it's just not a good idea if it can be avoided in my opinion.

 

Only dirtbike I've ever seen that weighed that much was "the dirtwing". Xr650 frame with an 1800cc goldwing motor in it. Raced a hare scramble or two with it. Od for sure trailer a wing. They're way too big to be hauled in the bed of a midsize pickup

 

You know how I know you should not own a GoldWing? You want to put it in a truck, do your self a favor and go to the nearest Hardley dealer and trade in that wonderful bike for one of there bikes they are much more suited for being hauled around.


But on a more series not I would not put a Goldwing in the back of the taco or most other trucks use a trailer.

 

I once picked up a goldwing for a dealer swap at work and used my 97 Tacoma. No problems at all. But they did use a platform on a forklift to load it and we used the same to unload it here. I'de imagine using a ramp with that size of a bike would be tough!

 

I have had dad's KLR650 in the back of mine, idk how much it weighs but its nowhere near that much! Also have drove the Grizzly 660 ATV we have back there without problems and it weighs over 600

 

also I load 2 track bikes (zx-6r and gsxr750) in mine all the time with no problems driving 9+ hours straight

 

If you can find a way to load it, loading ramp maybe. Put some extra support on top of your tailgate and make sure its tied down well. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to haul the Goldwing. The rubber mat would be good to make sure it doesn't slide around !!

This is mine, I wouldn't dream of loading it into ANY truck,
without a lot of help... when it leans too far, it IS going
to go over.. all you can do is get out of the way.

 

Any bike that comes with reverse should not be loaded in a pickup.
