Locking differential

I have a o6 prerunner 2wd without the sport package. I know that the sport package comes with a locking rear differential. I was wondering if it was possible to put a locking rear differential on non sport package for towing my boat. I dont know much about the subject or how expensive it would be so any feedback would be great.

The TRD Sport package does NOT come with a locker. It comes with limited slip that was mechanical before 2008 and controlled by the brakes 2009 and newer. The TRD Off Road comes with the locker.

You can put a locker in a non TRD model. You can get a kit from ARB and do it yourself or get a complete TRD rear axle and electronics and swap in that way.

 

Search-Sport package does NOT come with locking rear diff. The off road package has the locker.

what part of towing a boat would you need a locker? Other than maybe pulling back up the boat ramp..

 

x2, you could use the ebrake to simulate limited slip on the boat ramp if you really need to.

 

same here. my grandpa towed his boat with an old chevy 1500 van.

On the boat ramps near my house, I need to use the auto LSD to get off the ramps. First time I dropped my boat, when the truck was brand new, as I tried to drive off the ramp, my tires just spun, as the truck was sliding towards the water. Keep in mind I have a 5 spd manual. I thought my truck was going in. Then, as the rear tires were at the water's edge, I remembered the auto LSD button, and when used it, the truck just crawled off the slippery ramp without any tire slip at all. It felt like it was in 4W low. I have been a big fan ever since of the auto LSD.

i have a 15ft skiff that i normally launch from a few secret beach spots but recently have got stuck which was not very fun..i also tow my friends 23ft for offshore fishing and sometimes slip pulling it up the ramp.......i figured if i had a locker on the back it would help out.....also i do some offroading with friends but get stuck very easy and figure that a locker would probably help some....thanks to everybody who replied and clearing everything up for me

doesnt pushing the button turn it off?

I was out messing around on some small hills the other day and I had the button pressed once, and I could tell my tires where slipping a little bit but it climbed up just fine.

I made a loop and did it again with the locker and it was even easier
