It scared the shit out of me but like I said it only did it for a second.

 

i've done it before, it happens. i think i was turning around to get something out of the back seat and i floored it. bounced right off the rev limiter. scared me till i realized what i had done

at the moment it's just attached to the bed rails. once i get the rest built, i'll tie it into the bed bolts. come bed cage time, i may actually integrate it from the frame to this rack for some added support.

 

It looks like it's resting on the top of the bed sides so it's also bolted to the rail? Wouldn't the bedsides better support the weight than the rails?

it's sitting on top of the besdide with a bracket coming down off of it at 90* with a hole to attach to the track system.

same concept as the headache rack i built over the summer

 

whats the whole purpose of a headache rack... ive never really got the idea of it

 

Nice, you could even make the brackets longer to distribute the load although I imagine the plastic in the bed is pretty strong.

 

the one in the picture above was for a guy that carries an ATV in his bed all the time. he has to gas it a little to drive it over the fender wells when getting loaded. he got it so he didn't have to worry about punching through his rear window with the winch sticking off the front.

the one i'm building isn't really a headache rack. it'll be a full bed rack, the front portion of the frame to it just resembles the structure of one.

the part that rests on the bedside is more for positioning purposes. ideally the bed and bed bolts will support most of the weight, and neither of those are breaking.
