Tint Question

Recently, I got my front two windows tinted @ 20% and I am debating tinting the back half, but wanted to get y'all feedback before burning a bigger hole in my wallet.

As you can see, the overall look matches well, the back looks a tad lighter, but part of that is because it was cloudy outside when I took the picture. When it is sunny, you can't tell the difference:



Now, for the interior view:



It might be hard to see, but the front is a little darker than the back.

Now onto the question: Is this interior view a significant enough of a difference to get the back half done? I'm curious, for those who have had their windows tinted.

I'm a dumbass and do not know how to set up a poll, so choices A, B, and C will do:

A: Keep it the way it is, the difference is small.
B: It looks ridiculous, get the back half done @ 20%.
C: It looks ridiculous, go limo black on the back half.

LOL. I would if I could be guaranteed a hassle-free experience from the authorities.

 

I had the same thing happen and it drove me crazy, so I took it back and had 35 % put on the front instead. Doesn't quite match from the outside, but is much better looking out. And I can still see my mirrors at night.
So I guess either darken the rear or lighten the front. I recommend the former. So I guess Option D: Other then listed.

Thats not 20%. Id say maybe 15%. To match it up id just get 35 on the rears.

 

Yeah, did you have to fork a shitload of $$ for the person to remove the tint and then re-install it?

If that was the case, I'd probably just opt to tint the back darker to make it even. I guess the real question is how dark would be dark enough to make the windows look even?

 

Yeah, its actually just a tad less than 20% (17ish to be exact, but on paper it's 20%). So you're saying 35% would match it up?

Nope. I noticed it as the guy was doing it. He said try it for a day and if you dont like it bring it back. He swaped it free of charge.

 

As good as the darker tint looks, 20% tint is illegal in many states. I live in Georgia and the legal limit is 32%. Since no one makes a 32% film, the closest legal film is 35%. I have 20% film on my 2012 Tacoma and had 20% film on my 2010 Tacoma. I have been ticket once for illegal tint, illegally tinted taillamps, and an illegally tinted tag cover (all at the same traffic stop). I have been pulled over 3 other times for the same reasons but not ticketed. I finally removed the tinted tag cover. I will concede that it was pretty dark and I understand the illegality of it. Although the film used on my 2012 Tacoma was 20%, when measured by the tint Nazi with his electronic tint meter, the front windows measured 13% and the rear measured at 4%. As for the windows and taillamps, although technically illegal, you can still see into the front windows and the taillamps are barely tinted and plainly visible from the distances stated in the law related to taillamp visibility, therefore, I do not plan on changing them. I will roll the dice, take my chances, and accept the consequences. My whole point here is just be aware of the possible consequences when getting the windows tinted.

 

EFF the GA tint law!! I get on average 2-4 tint tickets a year, but still refuse to change it. I run 5% all the way around with 35% on entire windshield on my truck and car. Wont have it any other way pisses me off when a GSP's windows are as dark as mine

I really don't know how to respond to this .. although in my hearts of hearts I want to.

Let me get this straight .... you will suck up 2 to 4 tickets a year for the look?

Believe me ... from experience, it is more for the safety of those who protect you. But with that in mind you continue to attempt to skirt the law, the optimum word being law.

To use the excuse of the GSP having dark windows is ludicrous.

The night when you run down a person crossing legally in a crosswalk because you couldn't see them in the darkness may clear you mind ... I pray for you that it does not come down to that.

I have 35% on my fronts and at times it is a strain at night.

I know that you are going to get as pissed off at me as you do with the GSP but I can deal with it.

 

Your telling me cops have better eye sight than civilians? Here in GA 70% of cops have 5% tint on the patrol cars. whether that be troopers, city or county. Safety for them...Yea whatever its all about the easy $120 ticket. I do however roll my windows down and place both hands on the wheel when being pulled over.

 

have had two layers of 5% on all four side windows, 20% on the back, and 35% on the windshield for about a year now. haven't had any problems with the law and love they way it looks plus no one can see inside

 

I can tell you that Troopers are much better drivers than you and me. They are trained, they are road tested hard, spending many hours in the classroom and behind the wheel. They are proficient at what they do ... no question about it.

So ... I am now going to step down off my soapbox. I guess that it is a Win - Win situation. If it is an easy $120 ... good for you, good for the coffers of the State of Georgia.

You have 35% on your entire windshield? That makes absolutely no sense to me

 

Once you do it you will understand why... its NOWHERE as dark as you think. Anyone who drives in my truck has no clue , they think im talking about my sunstrip if i tell them my windshield is tinted

 

I would notice for sure. My sister had her windshield done on her Subaru and she went 50% and I could tell. She told me her friend had 35% on his truck and was way too dark she said, that's why she went with 50%. I guess I just don't see the point to tint the front windshield at all. For looks is my guess??? But if it's for blocking the sun then why not just wear sunglasses? If its so people can't see in then why not just drive around with a bag over your head!
