    Siping the big center blocks found on mud tires really helps them work better in slick and icey pavement conditions. Every cut is adding a biting edge that aids in traction. There is also evidence that siping contributes to longer tire wear because heat build up is minimized on those same big blocks of rubber.

    Some do say that siping a tire that does most of its miles on dirt and rocks is not good because small pieces of rock can wedge between the siping and cause chipping of the rubber.

    In my opinion, if you drive mud tires on the street, siping is a smart thing to do. I know it makes a huge difference in slick conditions on my KMs.
