    Cold air works best.
Didn't get the metro job. Hired people with 7-10 years experience.
And who probably already have full time jobs elsewhere. Fuckers.

Damn bud that sucks. Keep posting for it though (I know ya will).

Didnt neb him, bundled him up really good in his car seat and dropped the back windows for the drive in. Seems to be doing better now but he's still barking a bit. Sats were 88-91 when talking to triage. Now we're stickin it out in the waiting room. Of course, major traumas are coming in, with these crappy roads... Sooo we will be a while.

    that sucks.

I dont get why agencies hire people with a lot of experience. They probably only have 10-15 years left in them (or less) and IMO aren't a great investment.

I hate it when I see people in Fire/EMS that have a great job somewhere else with 10 years, competing with me (with zero experience) for a job....yeah...let see who is going to get that job

Not if they suck, just slid by and do the minimum to get ahead.
More experience sometimes means washout/burnout out and dont really care

    Experience doesn't really mean anything.

The sharpest medics out there are 1-5 year medics who aren't crusty and burnt out yet; while they are still young, energetic, and enthusiastic and willing to learn more.

The best medics I have worked with have been 1-3 year medics. They (we) are just excited to work, learn and grow. And care greatly for those we serve.

Not saying older medics are bad...there are a lot out there that dont get burnout and truly love their jobs....but A medic with 15 years of experience has the same training as someone with 1 year.

And older medics sometimes establish bad habits from old protocols that they are either too stubborn to drop or too unwilling to adapt to new things.

What they said. Especially with the thing being that they'll retire long before I will so they'll have to train and hire new personel sooner. I've still got a rural job I applied for to fill and I put my name in the hat for hose monkey. Passed the aptitude test so just need to get the rest of my personal information package in to them.
And thank you for the condolences. I totally thought I had that job

Put yourself in the hiring managers position, would u want someone with 1 year experience or someone with 10-15? I know I would want the experience. Yea the younger person would probably be actively willing to learn but there are situations where there needs to have someone to be the trainer. Sorry you did nt get the job but that should just make you want it more, make yourself more marketable and desirable to hiring staff.

    I have 5...
I did my practicum there, and I currently work on the casual list for their rural division.
Highly doubt the other candidates can boast this.

Don't forget, guys with experience typically won't get a pension. If they hire you new, and you're in for 20, they're stuck potentially giving you a retirement (depends of course on the dept/company). It might be cheaper to buy the guys for short term that get a higher salary.

Nah. It's a provincial run thing. Same body of government signs the cheque and does the pension.
