So I drove home from work, cleared the driveway of snow, and a few hours later the wife and I headed out for tacos. When I went to start the brand new truck... 2500 miles on her... she hesitated pretty bad! I had just filled up the tank on the way home, 93 octane premium (unneccessary I know, but I like it). It was like 16 degrees outside, but the engine was not cold-soaked. Things like that really make me question my choice of brands.

Any ideas why the V6 would hiccup on start?

I'm kind of lost, how long did it take to start?

Mine cranks a few times before it starts but it does that everytime

    Sorry.

It cranked, almost caught but failed, cranked some more and finally caught.

I'd mark it up as a hiccup, my truck has done it.

Could be a vary of things, now if it does it again then I'd be like WTF

Plus you said it was 16 degrees outside?

Yeah, it was cold... but the engine wasn't cold-soaked. It had bee up to full temp a couple'a hours earlier, so the core was still warm.

I'll keep an eye on it, but still... shit like that shouldn't happen with a brand new $35k vehicle.

I found that if you try to bump start the V6 it tends to not start, then on 2nd attempt it cracks awhile before starting. Best to always crack on 1st turn till it starts.

any chance you disconnected the battery for any reason. my truck does that every time i disconnect the battery.

Maybe the truck wasnt cold yet so it didnt spray the extra fuel in the cylinders. (fuel injection version of choke) and the air fuel mixture wasnt perfect for the 16 degree air hitting the combustion chamber.

I always drop to 87 octane for the winter. Seems to start and run easier.

What does "hesitated pretty bad" mean? Like, you had to crank the engine over and over for four or five minutes before it finally started?

It doesn't matter what you pay for a vehicle, a $8,000 Nissan Versa or a $140,000 Ferrari are all just mechanical and electronic machines. Things happen. If it starts to be a pattern, take it to a dealership.

Buying a different brand of vehicle is not going to change the fact that sometimes things happen.

Is this only an issue with the V6? I would be calling the dealer demanding an explanation. When we have problems like this on the new John Deere equipment the farmers are down our throat so quick. 150k$ tractor, you can't blame them.

I have only had one vehicle that started the same way every single time, my '96 Honda Accord LX. All others have intermittently had a long or hard start like you describe, including my '12 Tacoma with 2,800 miles on it.

Mine's done this a few times since I owned it. I chalk it up to a hiccup in the system. No pattern but a handful of times in the years I've owned it, it's stuttered on start or required a double turn of the key.

Mine does this all the time, seems like some sort of a 2nd gen thing. All the time meaning once a week or so. Never very bad, just takes a second crank.

It's always started for me tho.

This was common for me on my 05 4.0l Tacoma. It almost never started first crank. My 2.7L tacoma seems to always start first crank every time.
