Don't want to get political or anything, but I don't understand the fascination with hat-off, hand on heart stuff.

I love this country and consider myself as patriotic as the next guy- and for a long time I would've reacted the way you did. But then one day, as I was in the stands at Dolphins game, singing along with the national anthem, I noticed my buddy next to me standing with his hat on and his hands in his pockets.

I was about to say something to him, but then it occurred to me- what the fuck does taking your hat off have to do with loving or respecting America or the flag? And the same for having your hand on your heart/saluting a piece of cloth.

The answer: NOTHING. Not taking your hat off doesnt mean you aren't patriotic. I love everything that flag represents- but its a piece of cloth. I always make sure I show due respect and apreciation for those serve under the flag- because they're what we should honor.

Shit if an elder disrespected me I'd do it right back to them. I also eat at the table with my hat on.






(I do take it off during the National Anthem though and stand up, but I could care less if others don't. I also don't say the Pledge of Allegiance, but I still stand and take my hat off.)
