This is desired. If you are getting money back you gave the government and interest free loan. People seem very happy to give the government their money for nothing. I try to get almost nothing back but doesn't always work out.

Bingo. Sorry, I just don't understand why people give their money to the govt. all friggin year, interest free!

As long as I don't get a fine, I'll be happy to owe and not pay until April 15th!

That's the smart way - no reason to give the government a free loan for 12 months - I try to owe from $100-$500/year. That way I am maximizing my money and borrowing a few from the govt in the meantime :)

Getting a tax return means you gave the gov't too much money throughout the year interest free.

This is nothing to get excited about. If you're getting enough back to buy a SC or a truck load of parts, then you're doing it wrong! You could've had that in YOUR pocket already, parts on your truck already, instead of Sammy's. You know a tax refund isn't a gift - it's your money because you were OVERCHARGED! Time to adjust some W4's, IMO.

    I can't stand to get a refund.

    Just sayin.

I get where you are coming from, but there are times that a large refund is unavoidable. And I prefer to get money back rather than owe it. Granted that means the Gov gets an interest free loan from me.

I just don't agree. I like getting a chunk back at the beginning of the year. My investments are down this year - most folks are in a similar spot. Even 12-month CDs are earning under a percent. The Gov't holds my cash for less time than that - so call it 0.5%. I'll pay that for 1. the convenience of not owing anything come April, and 2. the fact that I surely wouldn't save all that $$ if the Gov't wasn't taking it before I can spend it.

I'm getting $3K+ back and am loving it.

I agree partially. Between house interest, student loan interest and then work write off's it's hard not to get something back

We are getting a nice return this year. I am not going to spend a dime on mods though.

What I am going to do is set my return money up to pay my monthly payment. I am getting enough back that I can pay all 12 monthly payments this year and have $300 left over at the end.

So it feels like I have a brand new Tacoma with no payments :D

Actually, owing money is more favorable than getting a refund. It means the government is not holding onto your money during the year. Giving you more flexible cash funds
