LMAO... no. The IDF tend to use a mix of Glocks, Sigs, Browning Hi-Powers, and the occasional "other". They are pretty standard on the 9mm caliber though. The vast majority of the militaries use the 9mm caliber as their standard service caliber. American SF use the 1911 if they want to; but it isn't "standard issue" for the regular guys.

As for reloading the .223/5.56, very few people do that. For just standard shooting you can pay a little more for better ammo and still come out cheaper than investing in the $250 for equipment, $30 for cartridge dies, then $20/lb for powder, anywhere from $25-$50 for bullets, and $50 for primers. Like was discussed a couple pages back; the math just doesn't make sense. You either need a high level of accuracy or a high volume of ammo. Best bet is to save some money and watch for a reloader selling out on CL. I've seen a some good deals that would get you into a complete setup for around $300.

Keith, I would go with a small 9mm like a Bersa or Glock. Mainly because 9mm ammo is cheap enough you can afford to practice a lot with it. Sadly 380 ammo is either hard to find or expensive; neither of which will make it easy to practice a lot.
