They did but this isn't the place for that.
Edit: I say they because everyone knows who I voted for.

It seams like everyone form the South LOVES the NW and wants to live in Vancouver or Seattle. Vancouver is a really nice city but it does have its problems. Homes in even East Van, not the best area start at 1Mil. I live in the Valley and commute 2 hours on a 2 lane freeway thats the equivilent of I5 to get 60 miles. People here are generaly nice but there is a HUGE population of immigrants. and not stereotyping there not the friendliest bunch around. A lot of people here are self centered and dont really care.

In the US, especially Phoenix, theres stores everywhere. It takes 5-10 minuits to get to the nearest Home depot where as in vancouver it could take you over a half hour.

I really like Chander AZ. I live there part time and am hoping to move down there when my company sells. Its a lot cleaner, newer and cheaper. Anybody looking to move to vancouver better have BIG pockets. Its about 50% mor eexpensive to live here.

The whole state looks like that. I'd love to live anywhere in Wyoming. Oh wait, I already do! *Phew*. I guess I don't have to do any planning for where I want to live :)

This. I'll take the 100* 90% humidity over anything below 40*. I'd never consider leaving the US for anything other than vacation.

To those who want to live in the west .. in places like CO, WY, MT or NM .. it can be done. But unless you want to live in one of the larger cities (like Denver Metro or Albuquerque) you just have to accept living on less.

Unfortunately most jobs in the mountain areas are service jobs, and housing is expensive. If you can bring your work with you (telecommute) more power to you. Otherwise consider careers that you can do anywhere .. teacher, nurse, cop, bookkeeper, auto mechanic, etc. Every town needs those. And if you want to live in a resort town, you'll probably end up working 2-3 jobs to pay the rent.

My wife and I live in a great mountain town. But we do pay a penalty for that .. in the case of my wife, she has a long commute (50 miles round trip down & back up 2500 feet of mountain pass). And we live in a small house. And for the first 10 years, we had no garage. That's fine in the Summer. Not so much when it's 10 below at 6:30 in the morning, and you're scraping ice & snow. And at our altitude, we see ice & snow 8-9 months a year. Nor was it our first or even second choice ... we couldn't afford either of those.

Every place has it's drawbacks though. And every year, we see people move out here because they had a great vacation. Then they do a couple years out here, and leave. To the visitor, we live in paradise. It's a whole different ballgame trying to make a living here. If you can accept a simple life, you can do just fine. But most people find they have to give up a lot more than they're willing to give.

Don't think I'd go back to Massachusetts. Probably San Diego is where I'd go.

Okay you've got a point there. I'm gonna do like every other cop from South Florida when I retire; move to Tennessee or South Carolina.

Over the years, I've lived in at least a dozen states (perhaps closer to two dozen) and within countries in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

The most valuable lesson those travels taught me is that the grass is not always greener somewhere else and it's often far easier to just make the best of what you already have.
