Hmmm. pop and lock with soft tonneau, or no?

I was thinking about getting a pop and lock for my tailgate. however, I have a soft extang trifecta tonneau cover.
My reason for thinking I shouldnt is that that my encourage some ruffian to cut my tonneau.

thoughts?

 

Seems kinda like locking the doors and leaving the windows open if you ask me...

 

I'm not 100% sure if this would encourage people. There might be just as many people who find that the tailgate is locked and not be willing to commit to cutting into your tonneau. Having said that, I would be super-bummed to come out and see a big slice through my cover. I got a HardHat for this reason, but you've already got your tonneau. My thought is that your tonneau with a lock is a better decision than your tonneau without a lock. There are times I want to lock my tailgate even if I had a soft cover, and in those times I would rather accept the risk that the cover is not knife-proof.

 

I figure most people are not willing to cut into a tonneau when they have no idea what, if anything, is inside. I have this setup but unfortunately my Pop and Lock has corroded and no longer locks.

 

i had a pop and lock with a soft access roll-up. used the pop and lock more or less for tailgate security.

 

I have had that setup before. I see no problem with it. Not everyone has a box cutter in their pocket

 

Hadn't thought about security for the tailgate itself although you can protect the tailgate with a $2 hose clamp.

Well majority of crimes are crimes of opportunity, if you lock your tailgate only when there is things in the back it will deter most petty thiefs. IMHO it is worth it, if it does get cut it will suck but i think the risk is relatively low for the tradeoff. If someone is going to cut you're tonneau, they'll probably smash a window anyhow.
