driver side window freezes shut

my driver side window freezes shut. does this happend to anyone else? its only that side too.

 

both of my windows do when its really cold, i just figure that theres nothing i can do to prevent it

 

Mine freeze up all the time. It has been super cold up here lately and they are always getting stuck.

 

Me too. My passenger door window actually broke off the track once when I tried to roll it down frozen... the tabs at the bottom of the glass snapped off! Luckily it was a warranty thing and I got it replaced free the next day.

Those plastic bug gaurd things on the windows might help (?) but a sure bet is to get some water going on the stovetop and pour it over the seals before you go. Personally, I just crank the defrost and wait now.

When i had a 08 Rav4 for a loaner vehicle the driver side window wouldn't go down when it was pretty cold either, made going through the drive-thru a pain in the ass

I use a small propane torch to heat up the window. (use method at own risk)

 

i have to open my windows every morning cause i have to show an id to get to work....i've been searched now cause my windows are tinted and i have to open the door when i get to the gates.

Sometimes i'll let the truck warm up a bit and just play with the switch up and down a lot and it comes free.

 

The best way to help this condition out is to rub a small amount of dielectric grease into the window and door seals. It keeps everything from freezing up, and even worse tearing up the seals. GM recommends it as part of your regular maintenance regime.... and it has always worked for me.

 

My drivers side window has been freezing since the first winter. I'm afraid I'm going to break the plastic crank handle off or break parts in the door. Seems like it gets stuck at the seal along the top of the door most but also in the channel at the top.
I put in a vent visor this fall to try and keep it less wet but it didn't seem to help at all. I can try a lubricant or something in the channel at the top of the window but figure anything along the bottom of the window like a grease will just streak the window and make it hard to see out of.

I need to open the window frequently to access the security card reader to get to work so this problem really sucks.

Any working solutions anyone has had success with ?

 

yep, same here...and it has not been that cold in NC.

i thought it was that the window motor was not strong enough
to pull the window down?

I'm going to try the lubricant deal...sorry no real good answers.

if its cold why do you want to open the window?

 

Mine do every winter on every car I've owned. Now I just start it up and crank the heater and let the interior warm up before I drive to work.

 

Does this get all over your window when you put it up and down?

Post results from attempts to solve issue.

I have to use security pass to out of work. Either roll window down or open door and get out to swipe pass. The wind blows about 100 mph across the open airfield. Getting out sucks ass in the winter. I fight fire while sitting in the truck. The best fire job on earth.

 

I leave mine open a slight crack, not enough for anything to get in & you can't tell it's open by looking at it. Once the engine warms up and the heater is actually blowing hot it goes out the window warming it up.

 

mine freezes at the bottom of the window, I just use the ice scraper and bang it a few times

 

Silicone spray or, silicone grease.

That takes care of the top seals, but the wiper on the base of the window will still be a problem. Perhaps teflon spray would work. PB Blaster makes a dry lube that is teflon based. I suspect that would work without streaking up the glass like silicone would.
