So my buddy gave me a K&N filter a couple months back and I was happy..until I had to clean and buy oil for it

After reading about CAIs I decided I'm just gonna buy a drop in pro dry and save some cash. I've been looking online and been seeing them for around $70-75 and I thought I saw some people who found some better prices...anybody know of a cheaper deal?

Is there a benefit to the Pro Dry S vs. the Pro 5 R? :notsure:

5R says 5 layers of cotten media and is washable

Pro Dry S says 2 layers of media and is also washable

Same price, seems the 5 R would clean better but the Dry S would allow better flow?

Pro Dry S is just like it says...Dry. Pro 5 R needs to be oiled.

Ah... I missed the 'oiled OE replacement performance filter' part

Seems like the 5R would be more similar to a K&N and have the same potential issues of buggering up the MAF sensor?

Morning! I'm getting close to just saying F-it and going with the full Stage 2 Si. I've already got a TRD filter, but it's getting old and I'm sure could use replacing.

It's not, but there seems to be more issues with the K&N's out of the box. Personally, I've run K&N's on past trucks and never had an issue with them but I figure if people are having problems, I'll go with another brand.

Do you know if the TRD filter is oiled? From what I can tell, I think it is :notsure:

Interesting... I might just clean up TRD and keep it.

Okay, apologies in advance for the necro-thread revival. This thread is where my Search led. Here's the question:

On the V6/3.4 with stock airbox, which way doe the aFe Pro Dry filter go? I "think" I know that the "Progressive Bump Seal" should go against the intake, to seal it. This would be to the rear of the box. Right? There are no instructions, and no arrows printed on the filter.

The confusion comes in because the filter has a metal reinforcement screen on the side opposite the "Bump Seal," but I'd expect to find said screen on the back. Since the filter sits in the box vertically, it "could" go either way. :notsure:

And to piggy back off of this, since the thread has been brought back from the dead, when cleaning one of these dry filters, you obviously need to make sure it is dry before reinstalling.

Having never used one of these reusable filters, how long does it take to get the filter dry enough to reinstall? I'm thinking about getting one, and don't want to get stuck not being able to go somewhere because I didn't allow enough time to dry the filter out.

Mesh goes towards throttle body, back of the filter.

Just use light compressor air to clean it. Nothing fancy. I clean mine every 30K. 60K miles on the filter. Mind you I use AFE Pro Dry.

And you would be correct if I were putting it on a 2nd Gen 4.0 engine. Anyway, thanks for the reply; I'm good now. The thing goes the other way on the 3.4, though.
