    not entirely sure. My theory is to keep the tacoma bumper height to a level so that if you hit a smaller car you dont drive over it since the front bumper is pretty high for a stock vehicle.

    it could also protect the front suspension from impacts. either way it will be a weak link if you wheel

    $4775 I wanted 5k, Told them I wanted 6k. Crappy thing was I just got it back from the local dealer for a wheel bearing and hub. Local was going to take care of the bill if I bought from them but they wanted 35k for a base taco with leather, tool box, bull bar, and side steps. I didn't want any of that and they wouldn't take it off the price. They were going to take the leather off and take care of my repair bill. I got this one for 28,400. I wanted the 2011 anyway, still don't like the front end on the 2012's. So basically the same in a 2012 was 33,009 and I saved almost 5k getting the 2011 just like I wanted and paid $750 for repairs to the old one. :(
