You could br right altho maybe its because thew 09 had over 60k on it which is well broke in and my 12 has only 500, maybe that is a little bit of it.

What irks me is the Tundra 4.0 has 270HP the FJ Cruiser has 260HP and the Tacoma has 236HP all with the 4.0 Why can't the Tacoma have the 270HP same as the Tundra?
And next how do they get the 270 in the Tundra in the first place?, all by the ECM? sure would like to have that HP in my Tacoma, wouldn't have any need for a supercharger then.

Heads, valves, camshafts, crankshafts, etc. The engines are the same model number but there are lots of little things they can do to get more power out of them. This argument always brings out the conspirator in me. I honestly think that Toyota limits everything on the Tacoma to push people into the more expensive Tundra or FJ. I don't want to derail everything but manufacturers make changes to their engines for different vehicles so they aren't all the same.

I want an SC really bad for my 12 prerunner... but 6k is ludricous. If Toyota is going to allow this kind of price gouging for a product that has been on the market for 3 years for roughly $4.3-5k installed and requires only a different reflash...

May-be its time to start shopping around for a different manufacturer.... this is coming from a guy who has owned at least 2 toyota vehicles since 1998 and currently owns 3.

    Latest Update:

"We received word from CARB that the executive order has been approved, so we are in the process of authorizing the supplier to begin production of 2012 kits. Given the lead time for shipping and warehouse distribution, etc. We're probably 4 to 6 weeks from turning on the 2012 application for sale, but if you check back with me every couple of weeks I should be able to give you a firm date pretty soon."

both my SC's (one on my 08 and one on my 2010) were installed for <$5k at toyota dealers in ct... and that was with me giving the tech $300 cash to take his time :)
your dealer is charging too much...

Latest news on the 2012 Tacoma Supercharger:
"It's the same main assembly, just one new part (a hood latch bracket to front bumper adapter). *We have authorized shipment, so parts should be on the way to our warehouses now, probably be turned on for sale in 2 weeks."

2 Weeks...time to setup the appointments lol.

I remember reading on TRD's website that although 91 octane is recommended, you could still run 87 and the ECU would compensate for it. Just sayin', you know :)

EDIT: Here's a direct quote from their web page:

"By using the intercooler, the inlet temperature to the engine is reduced allowing use of a more aggressive ignition timing map with the relatively high 10.0 to 1 compression ration of the 1GR 4.0L V6 engine. This results in better engine response and power output. It also provides better resistance to detonation and a greater safety margin under severe duty use. 91 octane fuel is required. For safety’s sake, the engine map developed for the supercharger will allow the engine to run on 87 octane, but the power output will suffer as the ECU retards the ignition timing to prevent detonation."

Thanks! I figured if I'm tipping the guy more than he's getting paid by toyota for the job, he'll have no problem taking his time and making sure everything's done right with no corners cut :)

I think the Taco is quick enough stock. I never feel like I'm going to die if I have to pull out and get on it. I was pleasantly surprised at how quick it was. Supercharger would be nice but I'm not interested in spending that kind of money, especially since If I wanted to go fast I wouldn't have a lifted truck on AT tires lol. Quickest vehicle I had ran to 60 in mid 5's. Never even really drove that fast.

Doesn't the engine get headgasket leaks after 70K or so with the supercharger?

You can also buy some good aftermarket head gaskets and not have to worry about that anymore.

Yeah, it seems as though that may be in the future for us SC guys, but I figure itll probably blow the gaskets while im still in my 100k bumper to bumper toyota warranty i got thrown in with my purchase when toyota was dealing with their little "unintended acceleration" problem so ill just rebuild it with a stronger gasket then...

The solution seems to be ARP head studs, which can be tightened to higher torque than OEM. Would add quite a bit of cost over the standard S/C install, though.
