Yeah, I'm one of those "over 55 guys" in the other poll who own a Tacoma... I pay cash for everything cuz I got it....not like when I was in my 20's.... Like most of the Taco owners...

I've always bought only what I could pay for outright....never paid anybody no interest....Now I can afford a new one anytime I want...hehe

I'm right behind ya, being 58. Got 3K left on the truck, no other bills. Couldn't resist the low interest when I bought it.

LOL! Nice! Good plan, especially if there's no pre-payment penalty.

We did a similar thing for my wife's car. At the time, the dealer was giving their employee discount pricing, and there was also an option for 0% financing or get an additional price discount but also finance at about 4%. I confimred there was no pre-payment penalty and took the price discount deal. When the payment book arrived, I called for a payoff amount and threw out the payment book!

As for the taco, I wrote a check and put the title in my pocket. No desire to make a car payment any more.

And no, I'm not rich. I just save up before buying. I figure I'm gonna be making a car payment, so why pay interest to someone when I can pay it to myself. So I setup a monthly transfer into a savings account that pays me interest. When it's time to buy, I know what the hard number is. There's no getting pushed over it, period. It also changes how I bargain, as I know the harder I deal, the more I get to keep. When it's a number the dealer can convince you to accept, as it's just a "little more each month", it's easier to say ok to. Think Entune, that's what, $2k, and not much more for a $30k+ truck. So you say "oh sure, why not." But if you can drive away and have an extra $2k in your account, then you say "you can keep your Entune!"

Paid cash for mine used. Needed a new ride, had the cash and found a gem. Not much of a fan of being in debt.
