So my wife and I are planning a trip out to Vegas from VA in the beginning of March. I just wanted some input on where to stay as far as bang for buck and quality of food. We defenately want to stay on the strip. What are some of the things we need to budget money for that we may not think of because we haven't been before? Thanks in advance for all youz guyz help from the East Coast!

Hey I'm not an expert on Vegas :p but I just went there this past weekend. If you're looking for somewhere cheap to stay thats on the strip new york new york isnt bad. It's a nice casino and the rooms are about the same size as some of the other more expensive hotels there. As far as what you might need, I would recommend bringing a nice dress shirt and slacks and nice shoes if you plan on going to a club or something. A lot of them have a dress code. But there's so much to see and do there it's hard to think of everything you might need.

Double your budget for everything because it's way more expensive than you can imagine (yes even for a sandwich and a bottle of water) except for alcohol, triple or quadruple that one... Everything else like food and such is going to be personal taste in my opinion, so if you want to be specific then somebody could probably make a recommendation or two... As far as hotels, we live in houses, so you might not get the best advice on hotels from us, but I work at the Venetian/Palazzo and if you can afford the rates, we have nice suites as does Aria and TI, everything else is foreign to me personally.

Do you like clubs? Bring nice clothes and then quadruple your alcohol budget again... Want to see Red Rock and the Grand Canyon? Budget for a rental car. Not leaving the strip at all during your trip? Screw the car and budget for compulsive gambling. That's all I can think of for now.

First off, your military so try and stay on Nellis AFB. It's only about 10 mins from the strip. NCO, IIRC, is $25/night. Can't beat that. Lots of entertainment offers with military discounts as well, so make sure you ask.

I'm a Vegas native. Two hotels that I've stayed at were the LVH (Las Vegas Hotel, formerly the Hilton), technically not on the strip but a stones throw away, and the Monte Carlo which is on the strip and a really nice place. If you are coming during the week room rates aren't too bad.
    Cool things to check out:
    - The fountain show at The Bellagio
    - Shark Reef at the Mandalay Bay
    - Gameworks (Huge arcade on the strip with a bitchin' bar downstairs)
    - Roller coaster at New York, New York (if you're into that)
    - Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace (if you're into shopping)
    - Shows (damn near every hotel has one, Blue Man Group is suppose to be good)
    - Playboy club/Moon night club at The Palms. (Playboy club is not nude, just a name)
Things to see off the strip:
    - Hoover Dam
    - Lake Mead
    - Red Rock

Check out Yolie's Brazilian Steakhouse...IMO, the BEST Brazilian BBQ ever.

Vegas is a blast if you like to party. But then again, it can be fun during the day, watching all the people and what not. When I was married, my wife and I went there about twice a year. I liked staying at the Bellagio the best.

A half slice of a sandwich at the Wynn is 10 bucks, so just to put things into perspective. I dont remember prices of everything around there, but ya it's pricey. The Grand Canyon isn't that great personally. I've seen the south and north, and even though the size is impressive and all, once you see one part of it, it gets redundant, unless you go hiking there. If you are just gonna stay in LV don't rent a car, it kills the experience anyway and it's a very confusing city to drive in because of the hotels and how they seem to cut off streets. Well, have fun!!

my girl works at MGM Grand. i'll see wat kind of rates she can get (military or watevers). there are some restaurants in hotels that are pretty decent as far as price goes. but my suggestion would be to just try the buffets at each one! y not, its an experience all on its own!

dont forget to bring the ruffies!!

MgM was cool. They do have the best gambling game in Vegas. Its an old school metal horse racing game. Its a lot of fun. Especially when you've got some booze on board.

As far as hotels, its not the best or the worst for that matter, but the New York New York always has killer deals.

For shows, I highly recommended going to see Zummanity if its still showing.

We are planning on flying in Sunday and possibly flying out on Saturday. If it is that much cheaper, we will fly out on Thursday though :D

It's built-in, no real guaranteed way around it, try and book your hotel on a travel site and sometimes they have deals where they waive it, that's the only way I've seen it not get paid...
