Here you go, over 600k on this engine and transmission. I see these engines going well over 300k no problem.

    I had a 96 for 5 years...I sold it with 110K miles back in 2004.

The person who bought it from me....still owns it. I still see the truck driving around town......You can't miss a red 96 with TJM front bumper.

That thing is 16 years old!!! I'm amazed they never took it in for frame rust inspection.

Honestly? I think the truck would rust out from underneath the 3.4L long before that engine gives up (assuming its taken care of properly)

I have 140,000 on mine and it is still running strong. I change the oil every 10,000 miles with walmart synthetic and get the used oil tested through Blackstone labs. So far so good.

Regular maintenance, I've had the water pump and timing belt changed twice, will be switching to full synthetic, but this baby is bullet proof. 175K, doesn't burn a drop of oil, runs like a champ and much more to go.

My wife's 98 4Runner with the V6 3.4L has 203k miles now and it doesn't burn a drop of oil. My only fear is i hope the head gaskets never blow.

Yea, I've already got people asking if i'll sell it, the dealer wanting me to trade for a new one, and my mom offering me a newer one so she can drive it and ditch her 4runner. I'm gonna have this bad boy for awhile....i hope.:D

False. Their Hilux had a diesel engine, not a petrol one. But they still are bulletproof.

Mine's got 160k and a lot of power! I'm assuming you must drive an auto? Only power lacking IMO is that I wish there was some more top end HP for passing, bottom end and mid range power is excellent though.

120,000+ only replace maintenance items, a Neutral Safety Switch, and Starter relay fuse because I busted the dust cover trying to pull and see why the truck wasn't starting and you can buy just the cover; it was the NSS btw which I'm sure went bad because of a dip in mud/water.

I hope my truck last for another 15 years. Like others have said...the frame will probably fail before the engine will.
