Sorry to get off topic, but I just wanted to address this question. I got my sub fixed at tustin toyota in CA a few weeks ago on my 09. It was actually not the sub but the defective AMP for the JBL system. When I first brought it in they didnt' know anything about it. I had to contact Harmon Kardon/JBl headquarters and someone from that company called my dealership and shipped them a fixed replacement amp. They replaced it and it sounds great, no more popping or thundering as you called it. As for TSB, Im not willing to take advantage of this until it becomes a problem for me on my 09 dbl cab shortbed 4x4, because I like the way it rides. Im thinking tsb will have some effect on that. I loaded my 450 lb 1976 cb550 in my shortbed last week and it didnt bottom out on me. I was more worried if the tailgate was gonna crease like some others have experienced in previous models. If they do include 09's in it that would be great though. :) IMO

Alright so i just went and checked my part #'s on the TSB for the leaf packs and here is what i got
    48210-04550-G RH
    48220-04190-G LH
From what i'm reading on here these numbers are on the TSB but my truck is an 09. What are the best solutions to talking the dealer into fixing this. Can anyone send me a copy of thier TSB rework receipt for an 09 so i can have as much ammo as possible before i go to the dealer? I just know the way my luck is i'll probably have a few run arounds

I would like to mention the TICKING noise. I also hear that same ticking when accelerating and it drives me nuts. Brought it into the dealer and they said it was "normal" Valve Train noise. I said OK - Thanks! Make sure that is documented. I dont even know what a valve train is or does!
It just sucks having this brand new truck with 1000 miles on it and having to explain to passengers that the sound you hear in the engine, Oh thats normal.

As for the 3 leaf TSB Im going to check on that at lunch. I have an 09 DBL TRD Sport.

I believe that is sound of your valves opening and closing (intake valves open to let air into the cylinder head and close during combustion, exhaust valves then open to let combusted fumes out). The tick is the sound of the valve head hitting the valve seal..correct?
Mine ticks on idle. I haven't heard it while driving but I haven't driven with the windows down yet (too cold).

Anyway, tell your passengers to shut the F#$K up and enjoy the ride in your new vehicle!

How do you like that color? I have the exact same truck (09 DC in Barc Red with TRD Sport package).

You will likely get the run around...many of us are. Your best battle is to report the problem to Toyota FIRST. After opening a case, they will tell you to talk to your dealer. Your dealer may ask you to bring the truck in and they will check for malfunctioning parts (broken springs, etc). If everything looks OK, they will call Toyota and ask if it will be covered. If your dealer calls back and says you were denied by Toyota, call Toyota again and complain. Raise hell with Toyota...not your dealership - they have little control on this.

Some dealers are doing it but many dealerships are hurting with the economy and not wiling to do repairs that are not covered by Toyota.

Great info Veccster. Called Toyota and started a claim and then they had the dealership contact me for an appt. The dealer will inspect my truck in about two weeks and i'll find out then what the outcome will be. Hopefully all will go smooth and i will get the upgraded springs.

I too called Toyo's 800 number and started a case# however my dealership dicked me around for 2 weeks so I went to another. BTW I called Toyo back and complained like a madman. With the latest rev. of the TSB in hand I pointed out the VIN match on first page, then page 3 saying the "previous part numbers" match what I have now on the rear, 30 minutes later they confirmed the back was outdated, parts ordered -taking her in Saturday. He did say the front struts are OK so I'm really only getting half done but I'll take it.

Interesting enough I measured from the ground up to the wheel well with 1/4 tank of gas, 36 5/8 inches, put 10 gallons in and lost 5/8" lift -I'd say that's a PROBLEM. Anxious to see after the 4 leaf pack how much it drops fueling up - time will tell

Just to provide an update, I did get approved for the TSB rear leaf spring package. My dealer has the springs ordered and will install once they come in.

    Here was my process:

-printed full TSB (it's 13 pages long but I only needed the first page)

-cross checked my leaf spring part numbers with the TSB part numbers (the #'s are on top of the top spring)

-call Toyota (800.331.4331) and report a "harsh ride when loaded with 500# or more". Tell them the truck could not handle the weight very well and even bottomed out on dips/bumps. Express this is a safety concern as the truck is difficult to handle when this happens (VERY IMPORTANT as companies fear safety issues). Tell them you frequently use the truck for it's intended purpose and haul loads. Be sure to make your point clearly but not get angry or 'childish'. IMO, there is no need to mention the TSB at this point. After giving you a case number, they will ask you to call your dealer.

-call local dealer and report a problem with the rear suspension. Report the harsh ride as you described it to Toyota. They will ask you to come in for them to verify there are not mechanical issues (broken/missing parts, etc). When you arrive for your appointment, bring the printed TSB and indicate your verification of the part numbers. You could go as far as having pictures of the part numbers and highlight them on the TSB so it's easy to see they match. If he wants it, leave the TSB with the dealer (my dealer did not want it).

-once the dealer verifies the truck is mechanically sound, they will report the issue to Toyota (who already has a case number for your VIN).

-cross your fingers and wait for the call!!!

At this point, your dealer will call to say you were either declined or approved. I was approved so I can't report beyone this. If I was declined, I had intended to get additional info from my dealer (who he spoke to, who the regional manager is and ask what he recommends). I would then follow up with a more FIRM call to Toyota. Let them know my frustration with their vehicle and ask for the name of a regional manager to report this to. Again, report safety as a concern! Get the name of EVERYONE you speak to. No one wants to be on record as the one that pissed you off. If you have their info, they will be cautious of this. Keep pressing Toyota. If you can't get it approved, it will make the issue bigger and they may add the 09's to the TSB sooner.

Also, 2009's with the TRD package have the updated shocks on the front and rear. The only part that needs updated is the leaf springs. It should be a 4 leaf pack (3 leaves and a helper spring). US vehicles are stock with a 3 leaf pack (2 leaves and a helper spring). They will not replace anything but this. If they do, you got lucky!
-this is according to my dealer (for what that's worth).

Hope this helps some of you proud new truck owners! Once you have the new leaf springs, get those 5100's on the front to level it and crack a cold one while you sit back and stare at your beautiful truck

    Hey Veccster,

    Thanks for the info......

Question regqrding your accesories? As you know I have the same exact truck and I am looking for Tube Steps and the hood visor for my truck. I noticed you have both and was wondering if you can share you purchasing experience with me.

What type of steps do you have? Where did you purchse them? Cost?

    Same for the hood visor.

I am waiting for my bed mat to come in. It will be my first accessory as I make my way through the gauntlet of things I want to buy.

    Thanks in advance.

All of the extra's were thrown in from the dealership as part of the purchase deal. You can find them all at TRDParts4u.com. They have the best prices on a lot of things I was looking at. Aftermarket brands are probably much cheaper.

Below are the discount prices from TRD Parts 4 U:
    Side Step bars - $331.73
    Front hood protector - $76.70
    Exhaust tip - ?
    Skid Plate - $165.20

I'll be looking into a bed mat soon enough. They are nice!

I cut some wires here. Added some wires there.
How is everybody getting a case number from Toyota and I was told to go scratch? Because I sent an email instead of calling?

No, it's because you are from NJ!...:p Seriously though, I am going through the same hassle. I would highly recommend calling and talking to a real person. I had to do it twice, go to two diferrent dealers, had pictures of the old springs taken, and now FINALLY, have an appointment to have them replaced next Tuesday. The process for me has taken 3 weeks! Just keep pushing.

Toyota on the phone sucks. I stopped at the dealership on my way home with a copy of the TSB and a pic of my springs showing the "previous" part number and asked why I had "previous" parts on an '09 truck. They made an appt for next Friday to look at it. Like everybody else I'll keep everybody posted on how it goes.

I was hopeful because i got a case number from toyota and my service guy said it shouldnt be a problem when i dropped the truck off to get some other work done. Then the next day he called me back and said they couldn't replace the leafs because I have the most updated leafs. i told him that I have the same part number as the old leafs on the tsb and he said they can't do anything because the 09s aren't part of the tsb and toyota won't approve it. So now i have to fight with toyota to get my leafs replaced. it is bull that they think a little sticker on the door frame saying the carry load has been reduced by 150lbs is enough. I will let you all know what toyota says. I really feel like they are giving me the run around and I don't like it. i won't give up though.

I just got my truck back, and not only did my dealer do the rear suspension TSB, no questions asked, but they also did the clutch pedal squeak TSB, bled my brakes, and gave me a free oil change with Mobil 1.

My 09 has the old spring part #'s. Where is this reduced payload sticker at? I don't have on the door jam. I haven't pulled my boat yet, but it has a tongue weight of around 300 lbs. I am going to raise hell if it bottoms out while towing it with a couple of folks in the rear seats and our coolers and gear in the bed. That was one of the main reasons I got this truck. Hell, you order the tow package, you figure they would know your going to use the thing as a truck. This is going to be fun, the sales manager at the dealership wouldn't even talk to me or wave bye when I picked the truck up. Dealing with those folks is going to be like pulling teeth.

Should be on the inside of the driver's side door frame. It's a yellow sticker, pretty obvious.
