New Shortty Antenna

Well just got my new 8' shortty antenna in. And it looks so much better.

 

Nice going, did you purchase new or cut your own??

I bought one of ebay that was originally for a VW. It was about 5" tall but the reception was spotty. So yesterday I took off my stock antenna and cut it down to about 14". It still looks great and sounds great.

 

im not hating but i dont like it. Im not a fan of the stubby ones either. Just looks out of place. Like its not supposed to be there

 

Make any size smaller you want......

 

I got stubby as well. Not a huge fan but the only reason I got one was because the stock on kept hitting the edge of the garage door whenever I pulled in or out.

 

You have a sweet truck but I'm not feelin' the stubby. It just looks...well...stubby

Do you get worse reception because it's short? I wish I could remove my antenna all together. You would think they would develop a powered antenna that would work like the roof zit does.


Why have car antennas been unchanged for 40+ years? Some higher end models came out with the retractable ones but they usually stop retracting after a while.

 

There is no difference what so ever in the reception. Before i got it i had taken my old one off completely and still got reception.... but than it leaves the knob there on the side of the truck and looks bad.

 

Looks good! I've thought about it and checked the web site, just haven't done it.

Haven't seen you coming in the gate lately. I'll have to catch up with you some time to check out each others mods.

Most antennas are approximately 32" tall which is optimized for the FM radio band frequencies. If you are changing to another size make it an even fraction of 32" (ie 16". 8") for best reception.

 

I've always wavered on getting one of these things. Your post with the pic and the $18.99 link made me finally just order one. What the hell. Just a few less Southern Comfort shots.

 

Looks good. I just put a 10" one on my truck. Reception is fine.

 

Is your windshield tinted or is that some type of new super rain-x? lol

Wow, If that is what 8' looks like I guess we (male members) (<-----now that's even funnier) are doing better than we thought. It'll be a great opening line at the Pump & Munch.

I know what you meant, 8" not 8', Just trying to keep up with the regular crowd.

 

14" one looks a little better imho. It's still shorter than the top of your windshield reception is a little worse than the stock though but not by much.
