I have an opportunity to either buy a 2006 black 4x4 access cab v6 with 96k miles, 1 owner and no accidents and the truck is in NY. (Currently have a $500 deposit on it) It will cost $500 to ship it. The dealership is paying fro Toyota dealership to do a full inspection on the car. $13,000 + $500 dealer fee

I also have an opportunity to buy a 2007 blue 4x4 access cab with 107k miles, 2nd owner and no accidents in Colorado. Supposedly no rust. It will cost me $500 to fly out and drive it back to OH. I will have to pay $110 to have the toyota dealership check the car. I may be able to get gim to bill it out for less so I can pay less state taxes. $13,500 private party sale

Both cars check out via car fax.

    UPDATE!!!
I never got a call from the Toyota dealership so I called them here at 4:30pm and they said the truck is not even there yet! I called the dealer and he said it was sent on a flat bed truck to the dealership and said maybe he dropped it off somewhere else. I told him to forget the deal and I cited all the stuff you guys said was wrong and he shot back and said that I would be getting the truck at almost auction prices. I said no thanks, refund please! The owner calls me back and says the truck has an exhaust leak and needs new brakes that they won't fix, I told him no and to please cancel the order and give my $500 back. I already see a dispute happening so I'm prepared with everything in writing.[/B]

Ok So i called the 07 blue taco guy back and he said just a couple scratches and a couple hail storm dings on the roof and the truck has 109k miles. he said it was never used for towing and doesn't have a tow package.

I don't mind the roll up windows and actually prefer them b/c as cars get older the roll up windows slow down and cost alot to fix if they go bad as where as roll up windows never break down and last forever. Can the fog lights be added? Also, can I add color matched fenders, possibly from a junkyard? I may even have the whole truck painted black if I can get him down to $13k.

***1/27 UPDATE: I CANCELED THIS DEAL AND REQUESTED MY DEPOSIT BACK. I FOUND A NEW TACOMA OF INTEREST, GO TO THE LINK HERE:

Is the first one a 6 lug and 2nd a 5 lug? Hard call. The first one is really dented/scratched. Big dent on the driver bedside. the exhaust pipe is really rusted too. Def taken off road a lot.

2nd one is a rugid trail base model. No fog lights, power windows/locks, no fob. If you look to the left of the steering wheel there are no switches in there. So its totaly base.

If you want the extra features, power everything and dont care about the dents, take the first one. If you like it plain as possible but in better condition take the second

Avoid the black one. Even though the record check only shows one owner and no accidents, that truck has been driven hard.

I'd make them send you better pics of the blue one before purchasing it though.

The first one is also missing a mud flap, a d-ring, hub caps has tons of scratches, rusted exhaust and those are just things I noticed after 10 seconds of looking at the pictures. I'm not sure about the pricing in your area so it may be ok, but looks in rough enough shape to me, so I would pass.

The blue one looks better, athough it looks like its base. At the same time, it is tough to tell as the quality of the pictures is quite poor. Maybe request better ones?

    I would keep looking....

Thanks everyone for the feedback! The dealer for the black one was supposed to call me at 9am this morning to tell me what dealer he was taking it to, he never called. I called him at noon and he said he was waiting for the owner. Then he calls me at 1pm and tells me the truck is at the dealership and gave me a contact guy there. I called the guy and told him I want a full check. I call the dealership back at 4:30pm b/c I haven't heard anything from him and the service guy says the dealer never brought the truck. This wise guy dealer has been giving me bs all the way. I think I'm going to cancel the black one b/c I've got a bad feeling about that truck.

UPDATE: CANCELED AND REQUESTED A REFUND FOR MY DEPOSIT! STAY AWAY FROM ISLAND AUTO BUYERS ON LONG ISLAND, NY, THESE GUYS ARE CLOWNS!

The 07 blue one is legit and is a private owner . He says it has roll up windows and is base but has a key fob with auto start (Didn't ask if factory). The guy says he added a slide window in the back. He says it has absolutely no rust and he has kept up with the maintenance but has a couple of scratches but no dings or dents. He said he bought the car on a credit card and wants to get out of credit card debt. I can try to wheel him down to $13k. I only have a $14 k budget, keep that in mind. THERE ARE NO OTHER 2ND GEN 4X4 TACOMAS OUT THERE WITH LESS THAN 110K MILES AT THIS PRICE POINT!

I'll ask him to send more pics.
