Bypass switch mod voids the warranty on the ENTIRE vehicle. Unplugging the wheel sensor does not...but then you won't have ABS at all (kinda nice in the rain). Neither solution is appealing to me, but apparently they work. My goal is to do the lift right so no hacks are necessary; this seems attainable by using the right parts, conservative mods and good service technicians. That's my hope, anyway.

    Good luck

That's like saying I did my lift wrong because my VSC is more sensitive now

Fair point, let me rephrase that:

My goal is to do the lift so that no hacks are necessary and VSC performs normally.

I will...doing whatever I can to "break the code" LOL. Great resource here...if I get lucky I'll definitely do a full write up with every conceivable detail in order to try and help others. Fingers crossed...

Do you have any links to support your statement?

I do not believe that's true. In fact I think it's FUD.

Vehicle modifications only void warranty if the dealer can prove that the owner modification caused the damage to the specific part/system that is claimed defective by the owner.

For example, an electrical modification will not void the powertrain warranty unless the electrical mod specifically caused the damage to the power-train part that is claimed defective.

That being said, it's a fair bet that if you cut and crimp any wires, dealer will refuse to warrant any control-module (computer) failures.

I suppose you could make a case if you hit a dash light wire and the failure was in the fuel-injection computer.

But any failure of a computer connected to a wire you cut - well, that's gonna be a losing battle. I tried it once after a car stereo installation and body-control-module failure on a different car.

Dealer: "Stereo installers fault. He did a hack job!"

Installer: "You shoulda brought it to me. I coulda fixed for ya, no prob. I ain't payin' no repair bills!"

Strangely enough, I've hated cutting into any factory harness wires ever since then. I'm just about paranoid careful. Check and triple-check.

All that said - I've had lotsa cars in my life that never had VSC; so if I had a choice I'd pick the lift over functioning VSC if it came to that.

    No supporting link. However...

Direct from the service manager's mouth...also relayed by an assistant manager separately a few days before. And it was very specific from both: the ENTIRE warranty for the vehicle. Everything. All of it.

Your mileage may vary, of course...

That's like saying if you do the locker anytime mod, and your motor blows up, you won't be covered under warranty.

A fancy assistant manager title doesn't mean they know what they are talking about.

But it does mean what THAT dealer will do for you...

Again, your mileage may vary. Just reporting how one dealer will handle it (they won't under warranty).

And yes, I can contact Toyota North America, hire an attorney, spend all kinds of money proving the local dealer position is wrong. Not interested.

    Billies @2.5 in front only.
    I am with this guy.

I lifted my 2011 with billies at 2.5, put wheel spacers on and got an alignment. Nothing done to the rear for any lift. I never had any issues with the VSC kicking in after I did this and I drove about a month that way.

Just 2 weeks ago I got new rims with different offset and installed 285 tires. Note that I also removed the wheel spacers. The VSC issue started happening immediately. So for me it wasnt the lift, it was the bigger tires and non stock wheels.

Glad I found this thread. Having the same problem with VSC. I have a 3" lift and 18" 275 tires. Very scary going around a corner at 40 and having both front wheels lock up. I am taking the PDF and all the info in this thread to the dealership Monday.

Guessing that if you put the stock rims back on the problem would go away. Exactly what kind of lift?

Still have not taken delivery of my 2012 (supposed to be here next month). Please let us know what you find out, thanks.

Ah well, I guess everyone has indicated it's not that simple. I'm hoping that sticking with stock rims (rattle-canned black) and then going to the larger 265/75R16 BFG A/T tires will keep my VSC within spec (along with new UCAs and the other Icon suspension parts).

Long wait for the truck before even getting into the mods. I may wait for the lift until I have the plate bumper...either ARB (they still don't have one for 2012 models) or maybe Shrockworks (I need to call them). Plus the shell will add a little weight on the rear. Makes sense to get the whole thing done and balanced in one fell swoop.
