American Campers in El Paso has agreed to an out the door price of $2000.00 for a new Leer XQ for my Taco Double Cab short bed. That is tax, installation, slider/tip out cab window, factory painted to match. Is that a good price?

That's certainly enough... any other options included in that like carpet, dome lights, screens, roof rack, etc? Maybe that's the going rate but damn that sounds like a lot of money.

Comes with the standards for the XQ including window screens, carpeted head liner, dome light, etc. No roof rack.

Just an FYI - caps dont hold their value. I purchased a used, like new, (only 6 months old) Leer 100 XQ for $800. Had it about 6 months and decided to sell. Got $700 for it. They are pricey new, but dont hold value on the used market.

I'd go to Leer's website, plug in the options you want and see if you can get an off the cuff quote from a different dealership for comparison. It might be the going rate but I'd want a check price.

As mentioned above, resale on these caps is crap. If you can afford the wait, I'd keep an eye on CL and see if a used one becomes available. I came across a 100XQ a few months ago where the guy agreed to a price of $550. However, it was 5 hours down the road and I would have had to kick out a few more bills to have it painted to match.

What I went with instead was a slightly used, excellent condition Leer 700 tonneau cover that was delivered to my local Cap World for $500 OTD. It would have run approx $1200 had I purchased it new. It was located at a Cap World a few hours down the road, but they agreed to toss it on their delivery truck and have it dropped off at my CW for an extra $25.

If you got the money to toss around, then by all means go new. But if you are feeling the pinch of the local day economy and can afford to put off the purchase, look out for a nice, slightly used one.

Well said... My ARE MX series was $700 used. It came off a 2005 Tacoma but the cap was a 2006 model. If you can be patient, it certainly pays off.
